“Speaking of the spleenless wonder,” Stephanie said, not so subtly shifting the topic of conversation away from her own inability to prepare for bad weather. “How does he like my Christmas present?”
All the amusement dropped right out of Jason. In its place, the bitterness and irritation from the morning reared up in him.
“I want to set it on fire.”
Stephanie pouted. “What, he doesn’t like it?”
“He loves it,” Jason spat. “He uses it all the damn time.”
“And that’s got your panties in a twist why?” Stephanie asked.
“Because!” Jason cried, throwing his hands in the air. “I can’t hold my boyfriend without a friggin’ force field in the way! That thing’s like the Wall of China in bed! He might as well be wearing a suit of armor every night!”
