Summary
Ketterdam's sky promised rain as they stood tall against the wind, looking at the ship placidly taking the sea. Kaz's coat floated around him, his hair was pulled in all directions, but his iron gaze didn't waver. He was fixed on the Wraith like he could control it with his mind.
No words came to Wendy's mind. Her eyes were also caught in the ship quietly leaving. Inej had offered her a spot on board, but she wasn't done with the city. Not yet.
"She's coming back," she said quietly, breaking the spell between them and the waves.
Kaz barely nodded, turning on his heels with a sharp movement, almost as if he was forcing himself to look away. The familiar clank of the cane on the harbor's cobblestones was her only comfort that day. "What's your plan?"
Wendy gave him a quick look. "My plan?"
"With the Ice Court money. What are you going to do?" Kaz's voice dropped so low she almost didn't hear him. "Everyone's gone."
She stopped to look directly at him. "I'm a Dreg. I'm not leaving."
Kaz nodded. The hint of relief in his eyes came and went so quickly that she was sure she had imagined it. "Good."
