“They’re spreading again. The sightings. The attacks. I didn’t believe it—I thought it was exaggerated, fear-mongering, you know? So I went out. Clubbing. Like normal.”
His laugh was sharp, humorless. “But Monaco was a stupid choice. I know they’re more active in… rich spaces. Exclusive places. But I didn’t think—”
“They’re spreading?” Carlos interrupted, struggling to keep up. “Who?”
Alex looked away.
“I was bitten,” he said quietly.
