Summary
It's been six months since Nicky's death, and his mothers grieve in different ways. Rio spends her time looking through countless pictures, remembering better times. She slowly feels ready to move on, at least as much as one can after such a tragedy. Agatha thinks it's bullshit. She skips therapy and lets her job take all her time, doesn't want to look at the pictures, and hasn't been in Nicky's room since his death, forbidding Rio from moving any of his things.
One evening Agatha simply packs her bag, and after another argument with Rio, she leaves. The house is no longer a home, slowly suffocating her. She keeps seeing Nicky's features every time she looks at her wife's face. The last words she ever spoke to him keep ringing in her ears.
She gets in the car and drives away. She doesn't know where she's headed, but the journey she embarks on may be the one leading her towards healing. Such roads are rarely easy, though.~ Inspired by songs from the Redwood musical ~

Summary
The FBI closes down an illegal underground hybrid auction ring. They save a couple of hybrids being trafficked through the ring, including Agatha; a mean, feral cat hybrid with big black ears (dotted with little white flecks) and a black fluffy tail to match. The FBI puts her in the care of one of their biologists, Rio Vidal, who just so happens to have an interest in cat hybrids.

"What did you think of the scene?"
"The uh—" Rio coughs, "The intimate scene?"
"The in—" Agatha's sigh cuts her off and her laugh enters Rio's space, "Can you not even say the word sex, Rio?"
"I can—" Rio's ears feel hot, and she snatches the beer back, eyes finding the doorway, but there's no one there but them, "I can say sex."
"Oh, can you?" Agatha presses in close until they're almost touching. Rio's not—she's not great with touch; she doesn't receive it much in any capacity. "Because to me, it sounded like you're nervous in the way someone who's never been touched is." Agatha's lips curl into a grin like she's already excited for her next words, and she gasps, over exaggerated, "Are you a virgin, Rio?"

Rio finds out the new neighborhood book club can never be just book club if they've been nursing a very mild crush on their next door neighbor of seven years.

“Please welcome, last year's winner, Rio Vidal,” the voice thundered. A round of applause was heard from the room.

She knew that name. Or, she had heard it, at least. Rio was charming, her voice soft and tender. Her fucking smile - Agatha was soon standing by the big TV screen, staring. She read the nominees, then the winner.
