Before Ren can turn around to face Akechi, he hears a metal clicking sound and feels the heavy weight of something cold and metallic pressing into the back of his skull.
His blood runs cold and his whole body feels like it’s made of lead as the reality of the situation rapidly sets in. Akechi has a gun pressed to the back of Ren’s head.
“Sit down Amamiya, we need to have a talk.”

In which Akechi finds out about the Phantom Thieves' plan to fake Ren's death in the interrogation room and Ren is left with two choices; kill Akechi before he can kill him and all his friends or join Akechi's side.
He goes with the latter.

That day replays constantly in Suguru’s head over and over again. Every sound, every smell, every sight. He can still feel the way his heart stopped and he immediately felt light-headed when they all realized there was an intruder inside the school’s barrier. He can still feel how his mouth dried out and his tongue suddenly felt too big for his skull when he realized Satoru had been stabbed. He remembers how he wanted to throw a fit like a small child, scream and cry at Satoru when he told him to leave with Riko and Kuroi, to finish the mission when all he wanted to do was stay and ensure Satoru was safe. But he didn’t. He listened. He listened to Satoru because he trusted him more than he trusted himself most times. Satoru never would’ve told him to go if he wasn’t sure that they’d all be okay. It was the first time in Suguru’s life he ended up regretting blindly trusting him.

It's been 5 years since Ren Amamiya has last seen Goro Akechi, his one and only best friend from his hometown. He's long since come to terms with the fact he will likely never see Goro again so he is pleasantly surprised when they're finally reunited at a TV station in Tokyo. The fact that Goro seems to be able to hear his metaverse monster cat is a much less pleasant surprise.
