In a small Texas town, Joel is a closed-off man marked by life who accepts the task of fixing up an old community shelter that is about to close down. During the repairs, he crosses paths with Ellie, a 10-year-old homeless girl who finds temporary refuge in the shelter.
As the shelter nears its closure and Ellie faces the harsh reality of returning to the streets, Joel, reluctantly, begins to form unexpected bonds with the girl and decides to take care of her, even if it means confronting his own fears and resistance.
Amid the suffocating Texas heat, their complicated and resistant relationship slowly grows, showing that even in the hardest lives, nothing is so small when it comes to hope, protection, and the true meaning of home.
