Summary
A few weeks after returning home from the wilderness, Shauna finds herself recollecting in Jackie’s bedroom.
“Perhaps the most painful part of death was the emptiness that accompanied it, the way it showed not in the absence of oneself, but the forever halting of everything that was once theirs - left to be picked away by the passage of time.
Shauna feels that weight now, having found herself in Jackie’s empty bedroom just weeks after returning home. She feels it in the hanging dresses in the closet. In the fading records scattered across the floor. The unsent letters and drawers left ajar, the unclosed diary.”

Summary
“Cradled by the mountains and blanketed by mist, the farmhouse lay under an April sky. The dew from an evening’s rain clung to the flowers in the yard, and the song of an owl blends with the gentle breaths of JJ sleeping soundly in his crib. Through the window, Ellie could see the moon rising behind the mist-enveloped mountains, and in her peripheral made out Dina, in her nightgown, blowing out a homemade candle.
It was perfect. Or, it should be perfect.”
OR:
Ellie has an idyllic life on the farm, but she still isn’t happy.
Ft: flashbacks, some Dellie.

Summary
“ She dropped the pistol and muttered pleading sorries to Riley while the rest of her body remained otherwise frozen. Something within her erupted like an inferno – as if her very existence had been flipped upside down and swallowed by the smoking ash of the gun.”

Summary
“Above them, shafts of light slipped through the cracks in the nave, cutting through the dust in the room and dragging the cold along with it. Rows of pews lined towards the altar, though some had been shoved out of place, flipped and pressed against the boarded windows.
Leading Callus behind her, a sense of dread creeped up her back as she scanned the room for anything useful.”
OR
Between the events of Left Behind and the Lakeside Resort, Ellie finds shelter in an abandoned church.

Summary
“I, uh… found these, back in the gift shop,” he says when he runs out of tasks. She glances over, brows twitching when he holds a kit up. “You ever see one?”
She shakes her head, uncurling just enough to reach for the kit. Her fingers trace the faded image on the box, tapping the cartoon children flying a diamond-shaped kite.
“It’s a kite,” Joel explains, watching for any spark of interest. “You make it, decorate it, an’ fly it when there’s wind. Reckon these are for kids, but…” He gestures toward the open area near the lake. “Good spot for it.”

Summary
There’s more blood than she expects, when she’s bit.
Riley tears up one of her spare t-shirts so Ellie can wrap her arm up, but they have to change it twice before it stops soaking through. Weirdly, Riley’s hand doesn’t bleed as much. There’s a bit of blood, because, well, in teeth versus skin, teeth win, but she just dabs it away with a scrap of cloth and some water and it stops pretty quick.
Worried about making it bleed again, Ellie leaves the wrapping on hers for so long that neither of them notice that the whorls of infection on her arm don’t match the infection creeping up Riley’s arm.
Or: The one where Ellie bleeds a lot.

Summary
Joel pretends he doesn’t notice the toy robot go missing as soon as he and Henry look away. He ain’t going to interfere with Henry and Sam, but if Little Miss Sticky Fingers wants to give the stupid toy to Sam later, well, he’s not going to say anything either. The boy’s just a kid. They both are. And they don’t get to be just kids very often anymore.
Not his place to say anything, but he won’t stop Ellie either.
Or: Ellie steals stuff. Joel doesn't really care, but he notices. He also keeps giving her things. She spends a lot of time thinking about the things she owns.
