Summary
Xaden Riorson thought he had figured out how to survive in this place. Now in his final year at Basgiath War College, he’s risen to the rank of Wingleader. He is focused on one thing: getting every kid of the rebellion bonded to a dragon. Then the real work can begin.
But he hadn’t counted on Violet Sorrengail, the General’s daughter, entering the Rider’s Quadrant. She’s not supposed to be here and she’s about to throw every plan he has made into chaos. Can he trust her? And more importantly, can he trust himself?
This follows the dialogue and events of Rebecca Yarros’s Fourth Wing, retold from Xaden’s perspective. This was written prior to the release of Iron Flame, so all theories and speculation are my own and unconfirmed. It's my best guess at exploring how Xaden might have felt throughout the story and features new scenes with Liam, Garrick, Imogen, Sgaeyl and Tairn. Major plot spoilers from the very first chapter.

Summary
Their new lives are an adjustment for everyone. No more running. No more looking over their shoulders. No more business deals to make and rivals to watch. It takes some time, but they do get used to it. In their new lives, they become like new people. The burdens they carried before are no longer laid across their backs like lead weights dragging them down. They all grow into themselves. They discover new hobbies. They laugh. They enjoy one another’s company.
But their past selves are still there, buried below the surface. It’s in the sinking feeling in Teresa’s gut when she sees a young woman exchanging currency on the street corner of the little tourist town near their home. It’s in the way Kelly Anne keeps reading law journals, just in case. It’s in the way Pote still cleans his guns weekly when he thinks no one is around to see. And it’s in the way James checks the locks and security system every night before bed.
Their past selves are still a part of them. And every now and then, they surface.
