Summary
When the referee’s whistle blows, Jude is running.
There’s an offensive attack they’ve got planned and it’s perfect to earn a tie that leads them to extra time, where they can solidify their defenses and properly win.
But the whistle blows and Jude falls to the ground.

There, in all his glory, stands Erling. His alpha, with comfortable clothes and a knowing semblance. With open arms and the bond pulling at Jude to run and be hugged by them. The only one able to understand the mess of emotions his brain is tangling after a brutal defeat.
For a moment, Jude doesn’t move. His eyes scan, glassy once again, everything beyond him until the haziness prevents him from doing so. Until his bottom lip trembles, his hands are numb and his inner omega preens under his alpha’s attentiveness.
“Love,” Erling says, and it’s all it takes for Jude’s resolve to crumble.

After England’s World Cup quarterfinal victory over Norway, Jude Bellingham seeks out Erling Haaland in the quiet corridors beneath the stadium. He tells himself he’s only checking on an old friend after the match, but the Miami heat has a way of bringing old feelings to the surface.

Erling's expression softened ever so slightly the moment he saw Jude through the phone. “Hey, Jude.”
Though it was probably unintentional, the words still struck Jude straight in the gut. Those were the words the crowds would've sung had they won. Instead he was met with a sea of disappointed faces, a sight that was sure to haunt him alongside Argentina’s two goals.
Jude gets a call from Erling after England's loss to Argentina.

Summary
“Your expression is looking real grim for a winner,” Erling says, crossing his arms over his chest and leaning against the doorframe with his lips tugged into a small smile. For someone who was just defeated on the pitch, his tired eyes are glimmering too brightly with amusement as he looks at Jude.
Jude sucks in a deep breath.
Then, shakily, as if it costs all of his courage, he says, “… You’re leaving.”
England defeats Norway in the quarterfinals. And, well, whoever said it was smart to leave your heart on the pitch?
