Summary
It’s during this walk that he sees it: a cheesy magazine targeted towards young women at the entrance of a tiny bookshop. On the cover the title '10 signs you’re with the right person' shines in glittery pink.
Goro is with no 'person'. He is with rival, though. Perhaps this magazine will shed some insight into why Ren has decided to leave him for five days. Does he not care about their rivalry? Goro can’t properly map out his plans to top Ren 一as in, win一 if he leaves for five days. That’s five days in which he can’t analyse every single reply Ren gives to Goro’s questions, or every mannerism he has, or every lock of hair on his head. So how is Goro meant to be a good rival? How is he meant to top Ren if Ren isn’t there to be topped?
He buys the magazine.

Summary
It’s a Sunday afternoon and Akechi Goro is in his shitty apartment, sprawled on his couch, when he makes a horrible discovery.
A re-run of Featherman is playing on his thrifted TV. Mid ad-break, he turns on his phone and sees a very familiar app, sitting there on the home page innocently as though last time it had appeared out of nowhere it hadn’t ruined Goro’s life. He had been sipping on disgusting instant coffee, which he spills all over his pants from the shock.
Not because he’s clumsy, obviously.
His right eye twitches. He opens the app, and reads the words: Amamiya Ren, Tokyo, Shrine.

Summary
“We need to talk about this. And I don’t just mean you leaving” --Ren raises a hand, cutting off Akechi before he can finish opening his mouth-- “I mean everything.”
“It’s pointless. I’ve already told you as much.” Akechi rolls his eyes and digs a crumpled lens rag out of his pocket. “After I’m gone, none of those things will matter anymore. If you think that your usual brand of brainless sentimentality will work on me, then--”
Just then, as Akechi unfurls the glasses cleaning rag, something clatters to the ground between them. Their heads turn to follow the sound in unison, and both discover the source at the same time -- an incredibly smooth, thumb-sized rock.
They raise their eyes again, steel gray meeting dark auburn.
Akechi’s Adam’s apple bobs under the collar of his turtleneck. “...Please let me explain.”Sometimes, if a rock is smooth enough, it can drag a man out of hiding and force him into a secret shared custody agreement with the guy he's hiding from -- and what Yusuke doesn't know can't hurt him.

It's late when they get back to Leblanc.
Akechi sits on the edge of the bed. Ren solves the problem the obvious way.
Or: Akechi is tired, and Ren is warm.

Summary
On the morning of February 4th, most of a decade ago, Akechi wakes with a start, stares blindly up at the tiles of the ceiling without registering what he’s looking at, and says out loud, “Well, that’s embarrassing.”

Summary
“The nurse told me to watch you.”
Akechi’s eyebrow twitches. “I’m perfectly capable of looking after myself,” he says with false cheer. “This isn’t my first concussion.”
When Akira still doesn’t turn around and leave, Akechi’s pleasant mask flickers, revealing a frustrated exhaustion beneath, and Akira realizes he must feel truly terrible. Normally, he wouldn’t let Akira that close to his true feelings.
“Suit yourself,” he mutters. But he doesn’t demand that Akira go away, when he knows that, if he puts his foot down, Akira will listen, so Akira is going to take that as begrudging permission.
