Summary
Set in Edo period Japan, the son of a nobleman is disowned for his crossdressing, and decides to become a courtesan in the pleasure district of Yoshiwara, taking on a new name and embracing life as a woman. However, life in the pleasure house is more complicated than it seems, and this new courtesan must navigate the relationships, jealousy, hatred, friendship, and lust that her new life is steeped in as a worker in a brothel known for serving those with peculiar tastes. Bouncing between literary and erotic, this is a story of the heart jumping into a sea of desire, and what remains of the self between the lust and competition of Yoshiwara.
