Summary
In hydrodynamics, there’s something called a laminar flow, where a liquid divides itself into layers, each moving in the same direction, but at different speeds. Matthias wasn’t smart enough to understand most forms of science, but he’d practically grown up on the sea; even if all the fancy terminology confused him, he knew exactly what it was talking about once it was explained.
That wasn’t the point, though. The point was that time and hydrodynamics seemed to operate under the same rules of physics, and that even though he knew the progression of time hadn’t changed at all while he was trapped in here, like a laminar flow, it seemed to move at both a glacial pace and an alarmingly fast one at once.
