Summary
Odysseus is finally back. Now that he was home he just wanted to live the rest of his days peacefully, teaching Telemachus how to take over as king so he could recline with his dearest Penelope and die elderly.
The gods would never let him go so easily though. You can't do the things Odysseus has done and not expect divine eyes on you at all times. Especially the deep flowing blue of the one you've defeated.
“Show yourself.”
Quiet. There's a ripple in the basin in the corner. Nothing else moves.
“I know you're watching me. Show yourself.”Odysseus is still looking at himself in the mirror, so it is through his peripheral vision that he sees the water slowly overflow out of the basin before spilling onto the floor, rippling as it flowed upwards as the god of the sea took shape.
~~~
Odysseus has returned home, though not without a few scars and an odd power running through him. He couldn't be happier now that he's reunited with his wife and son, but he could probably do without the gaping hole in his stomach, caused by the God of Tides himself.
It's not an issue though, Poseidon has his own to match. And a score to settle.
Summary
“You idiot.”
Odysseus felt his chest heaving up and down as he struggled to breathe.
“Can’t you see?”
Odysseus’ head was spinning, throbbing painfully. From the wound in his stomach? From nearly drowning just moments prior? From the raging storm surrounding him? Who knows. But it was all a buzzing in the back of his skull as he stared down at the being in front of him.
“You sealed your fate, just to beat me.”
Poseidon was in front of him, laying against a jagged stone. He was trembling, slightly, and there was a breath of pain to his voice. Yet the grin on his face remained proud and spiteful.
Odysseus wanted to tear that look right off.
Or,
Odysseus knocks Poseidon down and starts stabbing him with the rage of 600 violent deaths, but he finds Poseidon is enjoying this far too much.Series
Summary
“Odysseus.” Odysseus did not startle. He also did not greet Diomedes despite having known of his approach. “Odysseus?”
Perhaps this was some sort of battle related trauma. Diomedes ended up sitting down besides Odysseus and let his shoulder bump against the sullen King. “Talk to me, friend.”
“...About what?”
“What’s going on? Polites is concerned, so are your men. Was it the blood? Or the men who fell? Rest assured, friend, none of yours fell today.”
“Do you think King Sisyphus fights against his punishment? Do you think the Fates would allow him, if he did?”
Flinching, Diomedes observed the change in Odysseus’ eyes. Instead of the colour of the sea, Odysseus’ eyes were taken over by a hue of red– only noticeable when observed in a certain angle but definitely present. Diomedes knew what caused a hue of red like that.
Odysseus had been touched by Ares’ Rage.
In which Odysseus is dropped back in time into the Trojan War and chooses to mess with everyone until it gets him killed or gets him back to Penelope. Others take notice.
Summary
Was this a smart idea?
Obviously, no.
Was he a smart man?
Others might have claimed him to be one, but at this moment, his wits were useless.
Was Poseidon doing a very good job distracting him from all those big feelings trapped in his tiny, weak body by kissing, licking and biting his neck?
Most definitely.
Summary
“I hear you’re cursed,” Poseidon says, and Odysseus is relieved that he didn’t have to be the one to start this conversation.
“I am,” he supplies with a nod.
“And what kind of curse did the titaness manage to wrap you up in?” He sounds bored. He probably is, but any good head of house would make sure his new prisoner isn’t spreading something that’s contagious.
Odysseus steels himself. “It’s a punishment for avoiding sex,” he explains, miraculously concise.
“What?” The room shakes.
---
In which Polyphemus doesn't fall in front of the cave entrance, and thus Odysseus doesn't have to blind him. He never evokes Poseidon's ire.
Odysseus still has the worst luck in all of ancient Greece, however, and winds up on Ogygia for six years anyway.
So, when the king of Ithaca is injured falling through Charybdis' teeth, Poseidon has no reason not to assist. Zeus' gentle persuasion helps, too.
Summary
Penelope comes to the conclusion that her husband and a certain god of the sea could really stand to bring their quarrel to an end. Maybe it's time they settle things, you know, like men!
