“Pomegranates?”
“Scented,” Mikasa says, flipping the bottle over to read the back. “...And flavoured too?” “Wait, you can eat lube?”
Mikasa’s eyes snap up to Annie, forgetting the bottle, as she lets out a soft laugh. “No, you can’t. It’s just for the taste.”
“What’s so funny? Why would something be flavoured but you can’t eat it.” Annie grabs the bottle, flipping open the cap to let out the smell. She slants the bottle and squirts a drop into her palm before bringing it up to her nose. “It does smell like pomegranates. Is this what you were using earlier?”
Mikasa nods her head, “Yeah, do you like it?”.
“It smells nice.” Curiously, Annie sticks her tongue out, scooping up a little bit of lube. She only meant to taste it, but she accidentally gulped down the sample of lube, her face twisting in disgust from the unusual texture.
“Wait–you don’t swallow it,” Mikasa laughs, clutching her stomach. “It’s for the taste, Annie. Stop trying to eat it.” She says, snatching the bottle away.

Summary
Mikasa nods. It’s not her place to determine how Annie relates to her father: Annie’s never known love from anyone else. For a few years, Mikasa was lucky enough to have a real family, and years later, she reconstructed that with the 104th, a twisted little codependent pile of lost children grown. That Annie has trusted Mikasa with her life story, over the course of all her infrequent but well-anticipated visits, is already a sign of goodwill. Perhaps, now, they’re even friends, something they can only be at this nearly-abandoned cabin at the end of the world.
Mikasa’s still curious. “Did you really not like it? Fighting, I mean?”
Annie takes a sip of her cider. She puts both hands on the table, considering. “Would it make me a monster if I liked sparring, actually?”
