Summary
A once proud Dalish, tossed away in a Circle, is freed, or so it seems, thrust into the role of Herald and the gilded cage that comes with it. As chaos unravels the world, he too changes, without even realizing it. Already alienated from his culture, the idea that he is a Dalish Elf erodes, leaving only the distant persona of The Inquisitor.
Woefully underprepared for the role, he must rise to the challange, not as an Elf, but as the humans' Inquisitor, battling Blood-Drunk Magisters, Insane Templars, and a Dread Wolf's Old Nemesis; all for the sake of the faceless masses who despise his supposed kin.
In this storm, the broken elf and a spymaster crushed by guilt and doubt form a bond even as they are each forced to bear the weight of their titles, finding understanding and comfort in one another, after having endured so much.
This is a fic featuring two pretty long character arcs strongly tied to the story which eventually diverges from canon. The romance side of it is very... slow burn, as it wouldn't make sense otherwise. I also try and add a bit more character to the antagonists while tying them closer to the protagonists from a narrative standpoint. Sidenote : the main villain isn't tagged.
