After another few moments of silence, Shane said quietly, “It’s not that. I’m not jealous that you were hooking up with some random Russian girls a decade ago.” He paused to collect himself. “I just wish…” Shane drew in a shaky breath, “I just wish we could do that. Go to the club. Dance and make out and have people see us and have it not matter and…” he trailed off helplessly. God, how was a pop song from 2003 making him spiral like this? Shane couldn’t help the thought from creeping in: I really am fucking pathetic.
Or: On the drive to the airport after their time at the cottage, Shane and Ilya fantasize about what it would be like to be together publicly.

Summary
Finally able to touch his skin, Ilya ran his hands over Shane’s shoulders, his arms, his chest, wanting to feel all of him all at once. He moved his mouth to Shane’s jaw and then his neck, nipping at the soft skin at his collarbone. Shane’s breath quickened, and Ilya was a man possessed, unable to wait even a second longer.
Or: Ilya brings his home movies over to Shane and immediately regrets it.

It’s been months since the cottage, and Shane is finally coming to visit Ilya. He hasn’t been back in Boston since the day he ran out the door saying he couldn’t do this. Ilya is spiraling, just a little, not knowing where they stand in this new and fragile thing. Boyfriends, probably. He’s never been someone’s boyfriend before.
