Summary
Kaladin Stormblessed is an EMT and Vietnam veteran in 1975 Los Angeles. He's long been defined by his inability to look away when something is wrong. Night after night, he responds to scenes of unexplained deaths—bodies drained of blood, marked by strange bite wounds—while the police dismiss the cases as coincidences or refuse to investigate at all. When one of the victims turns out to be someone Kaladin knew years ago, his professional detachment finally shatters.
Driven by grief and a stubborn sense of duty, Kaladin begins investigating on his own, uncovering a hidden Los Angeles that exists behind velvet curtains and neon lights: a secret society of vampires locked in ancient clan wars. As he is drawn deeper into this dangerous underworld, Kaladin meets Adolin, a vampire who defies everything Kaladin believes about monsters and humanity. Their encounter challenges Kaladin’s understanding of good and evil—and sets him on a path that will change his life, blurring the line between the man he was and the world he's now part of.

Summary
When the mayor’s eldest son cruised by in his butter-yellow convertible, polished to perfection, Kaladin’s teeth clenched so hard they squeaked.
Adolin Kholin waved like he was greeting fans at a parade.
Golden boy. Letterman jacket. All charm and perfect hair and perfect teeth. Rumor was he’d never lost a scrap of anything in his life—football game, debate team championship, maybe even an argument with God.
Moash muttered, “Look at him. Thinks he owns the damn town.”
Kaladin didn’t answer. His hands were already fists.
The convertible slowed. Adolin leaned over the passenger seat with a grin that, to his credit, wasn’t mocking—just stupidly friendly.
“Kaladin! Hey—nice bike!” he called, shouting over the engine.
Kaladin glared. “What do you want, Kholin?”
Adolin’s smile faltered, just slightly. “Nothin’. Just being polite.”
“Well don’t.”
Kaladin swung onto his bike. “I’m leaving.”
“Kaladin, wait—” Adolin began, for reasons he probably didn’t understand himself.
Kaladin revved the engine like a roar. “Stay out of my way, Kholin.”
He tore off down the road, tires squealing.

Summary
They didn’t call Kaladin “alpha” anymore.
Not in Sadeas’ warcamp, where brands burned deeper than any scent ever could. The others in Bridge Four—mostly betas, a scant number of quiet omegas—looked at him with uncertainty, like his designation must surely be a mistake. Alphas weren’t supposed to be hollow-eyed and starving. They weren’t supposed to flinch at raised voices or brace for blows that never came.
Alphas led. They protected.
Kaladin carried bridges.
He kept his scent dulled, instinctively reined in, flat as the shattered plains around him. It was safer that way. Alphas drew attention, and attention got people killed. So he forced himself into quiet obedience, shoulders bowed, breath contained, the way a man swallows a scream.
---
He knows, Adolin realized. He doesn’t know what, but he knows I’m hiding something.
Before Adolin stepped away, he caught one last image:
Bridge Four laughing—tired, strained, but real.
Life in a place designed for death.
Adolin swallowed, throat tight.
They deserved better than this.
And if the day came when they needed help—when Sadeas finally decided to break what he feared—Adolin Kholin would not be late.

Summary
“I want to leave,” Bucky admitted, standing up and beginning to pace. “I don’t do well being trapped.”
“Bucky, you need to stay hidden. Your position has been made very clear. When I agreed to stay behind with you, I swore that I wouldn’t let her get her hands on you again.”
“Why hasn’t Loki visited? Anyone?” Bucky demanded. “Why has no one come or told us anything! I just… I need to leave. I need to leave, Sam. I… I spent six months in that hole in the ground, and how is this any different? How is this any less of a prison?”
Bucky had never liked hiding, but against his better sense of justice, he'd settled down in a cabin in the woods with his old friend, Sam. After all, before Steve left, Sam had made a promise to keep Bucky safe from his former captor. Yet when Loki led a confused young man named Peter to their doorstep, their hiding was over. It was time to make a team, no matter how unorthodox, and take back their world.Or, the SteamPunk Alice in Wonderland AU I didn’t know I needed until I started writing it.
