Summary
Jack must have caught Samira’s sideways glances at the root-like scar now visible through the deep v of his top and smiled tightly. “Shark attack. Never know what animals are out there on Lake Michigan.” Keeping a straight face until the tight furrow of Samira’s brow became too earnest for him to keep up his ruse, Jack nudged her shoulder with his and snorted. “I’m kidding Mohan. Souvenir from a mortar shell in Kandahar. I promise, it didn’t hurt as much as it looks.”
“Oh! I don’t think it looks painful. It looks cool, kinda like it’s a map line on your body.” It wasn’t until Samira looked up from the tablet that she was typing her notes into that she caught Jack’s smirk, his green eyes playful under the unforgiving lighting of the exam room. “A map line…never had residual shrapnel described in that way before.” Samira felt her cheeks flare in embarrassment and fear, praying to the Gods that she hadn’t just shot her medical career in the foot by ogling a war injury of her attending.

Summary
When the time comes for Jack and Samira to take a huge step in their relationship, Samira takes a moment to warm up to the idea before going all-in.
____________________________________________________________________________________________
Exhaling deeply, Samira didn’t know what had come over her, who had come over her, when she found herself removing the small device that had kept her child free since she was in college and staring at it like it was an artifact from another civilization. Mohan, you’ve truly lost it, she thought to herself, what in the actual fuck is wrong with you?
Still, she couldn’t shake the feeling as she glanced at herself in the mirror, eyes steely with determination and a dash of delusion. Yes, she knew the likelihood was low. Yes, she knew as a physician that her cycle would start within days if not hours of removal. All of the medical training and studies and knowledge bounced around the perimeter of her brain as she walked out of the bathroom she shared with Jack and leaned against the doorframe, a smirk on her face as she took in the sight of him in bed.

Summary
Jack shifts, drawing her focus back, and he's still watching her, now with his arm lifted in invitation. It doesn't matter that they're in a poor excuse for a sauna nor that they cuddle plenty every single day. Anytime that Jack coaxes her in like this, she jumps at the opportunity. She presses against his side, then shivers at the feel of their bare bodies being flush. She went more years than she'd like to admit being totally touch-starved. Sometimes the ripples of relief still surprise her.

Their air conditioner may have broken down during a heat wave, but Samira and Jack still can't keep their hands off of each other.
