“For the last time, Urameshi, Eikichi’s a she! Quit it with the it crap or I’ll knock you into next Sunday brunch.” He jabbed his chopsticks at Yusuke pointedly. “And I don’t think you could get any smaller.”
“Yeah, yeah, whatever. She’s beating the shit outta you. But what’s with that? I thought kittens were s’posed to be all cute n’ cuddly.” Yusuke swirled his drink thoughtfully before taking a swig.
“You’ve never had a kitten, have you, Urameshi?” Kuwabara deadpanned.

She’s cut to the core of what Hiruko can’t tell her about, even if she wants to—still, Hiruko gives Darumi a sharp grin, at the knife’s edge of what will send this loop careening downward. “Who’s to say I haven’t figured out how to redo things already? If we get a bad ending here, I’ll make sure you get a better one next time.”
Or: Hiruko makes sure Darumi survives.

Summary
Murvrum never asked to participate in this war, just as his people never asked to have it forced upon them. At his weakest moment, as he's truly regretting the life he's been made to live, the enemy surprises him with their mercy... even if he must allow them to take samples from him to be fashioned into bioweapons against his people in return.
Strangely, though, one of those enemies in particular quickly grows very attached to him, and their leader is unexpectedly benevolent. It makes Murvrum wonder if there's been some sort of misunderstanding.
