Since Merlin clearly spends so much time in the tavern, it’s only right for me to write a scenario in which he is drunk in there.

Arthur had scoffed at him, either amused by the situation in which he found him or annoyed at his useless servant for being away from his duties once again.“Merlin, what have I told you about going to the tavern?” He chided, annoyance slowly creeping in.
Merlin hadn’t responded. Arthur was becoming worried; Merlin wasn’t as alright as he first thought, or maybe…—
“You’re pretty...”

In which Merlin, drunk out of his mind, confesses his feelings to Arthur. He doesn’t remember what happened next, but Arthur’s sure to tell him when they wake up.That is, if he can get Merlin to stop screaming.

Basically, I thought that if Merlin and Arthur did get together they would be like, so obvious about it because the meaning of subtle just doesn't apply to them.
Gaius had known for quite some time Merlin and Arthur were more than friends, it's just a matter of them telling him. (More importantly Merlin telling him)
