    Summary

Morrible unfurls Glinda’s mind like a scroll, examining the contents of her memory the way she examined the displayed organs of the first fetal pig she ever dissected. It’s less cohesive than the innards of a pig. That’s the problem with memory bound by emotion. Love is diffuse. It so easily becomes entangled in every aspect of the human experience, regardless of whether the target was physically present or not. Extracting it with any amount of elegance can get…dicey.

Something about the expression on her face. It’s just…oh, Glinda could smack her. She gives a final angry squeeze to the spray bottle trigger.

The Witch sets her jaw. “Could you not do that? Please?” she requests flatly, and it’s…oh, she has a tone, too. She has a tone, Glinda hates that tone.

“Why aren’t you melting?” Glinda demands, so angry she sprays her in the face again.

The Witch lets out an irritated breath, wiping her face with the back of her hand. “Not to shatter your worldview, Glinda, but water doesn’t actually melt people,” she says.

“But you’re the Witch,” Glinda asserts and sprays her again.

“Glinda, I just—I swear if you spray me one more time—”

And Glinda doesn’t actually mean to spray her one more time, it’s just her tone, her tone, it’s so annoying for being annoyed at her when she’s the one who broke into Glinda’s penthouse—so Glinda does, she sprays her in the face again.

And the Witch snatches the spray bottle out of her hand and sprays Glinda in the face.

Glinda lets out a yelp of surprise, flinching back like she’s been shot, and stares up at the Witch in shock.

“Are you done?” the Witch asks pointedly.

    Summary

"All of Oz thinks I’m dead.”
“Not all of Oz,” Glinda said. Something like shame flickered across Elphaba’s green face. “Water, Elphaba, really?”
“You know the rumors. Apparently I’m so wicked water can melt me.”
“Well, I can agree that you’re wicked, but the rest of the sentiment is ridiculous.”

Ten years after the melting, Glinda gets a visitor whom she is less than pleased (and unsurprised) to see.

“Fiyero, really, thank you for being my friend. I miss you dearly, and I promise to keep her close. I’ll take care of Elphie, I promise.” Glinda leaned slightly and finished in a whisper. “But you should know, my house, my palace, and everything else is bigger than yours.”

    “Galinda!”

“I told you I would say it to his face,” Glinda said. She straightened up and faced Elphaba.

    “What are you doing here?”

“I should ask that of you. Seriously, Elphie, a religious convent? Who have you become?”

“A ghost,” said Elphaba. “If I'm anything at all.”

“You were always a ghost. Even back at Shiz, you were.”

Or, Glinda visits the cloister of her namesake. Things spiral from there.

    "You’re trembling," Glinda says.
And- despite the tears in both their eyes, Elphaba can’t help her tiny chuckle. It’s ironic, after all. That’s usually her line.
