Summary
Glancing down at the blank paper with only a few illegible scribbles scrawled across, Dan Heng sighs, gripping his pen until his hand goes white and splotchy. If his younger self were to see him slacking off in class, he’d probably faint from shock. His own brother has already scolded him several times for his slipping grades.
And most damning of all is how little he cares. All things in the world seem so insignificant when he’s near Ren; his vision occupied by vivid, red-golden eyes framed by long, soft lashes, a toned figure that could only be achieved through years of dedication and a perfectly cocky smile on an unfairly handsome face.
Ever since that day at Stelle’s party Dan Heng could never seem to tear his eyes away from Ren, nor could his heart settle from its jilted thumps whenever his thoughts stray towards him.
Yet Ren never seems to notice his gaze, always too occupied with the man who always seemed to be hanging by his side.

For years now, Dan Heng has harboured a crush on Ren but stands to the side in quiet jealousy, believing he loves another. Unbeknownst to him, Ren is just as conflicted, unable to bring himself to confess when it seems like Dan Heng has already been taken.

Ren pulls away with a mournful noise and glares at the twisted beings racing down the hallway towards them. He stands up and draws his sword as Dan Heng refastens his pants and tries to stop the way his legs are shaking.
He does look a little more lucid, Dan Heng thinks, blushing furiously as he watches Ren wipe his mouth off with his free hand then lick the mess off of his fingers. Seems like this really does work to calm him down…

Yingxing looked up from where he was hammering away at a weapon and smiled, the force of it making Dan Feng want to topple over.
“I wasn’t expecting you,” Yingxing said, wiping the sweat off his forehead. Dan Feng wanted to catch the droplets that flew in the air with his tongue. “What brings you to my humble workspace, High Elder?”
Dan Feng crossed his arms and raised an eyebrow at the obvious lie: Yingxing knew that Dan Feng liked to seek his presence after long meetings, and the lilt to his voice betrayed his teasing easily. Instead of calling him out on it, though, Dan Feng allowed himself to indulge in his right as Yingxing’s husband, his gaze traveling down Yingxing’s distinctly unclothed torso toward the pants that clung low on Yingxing’s hips. “It is no wonder that you are dressed so inappropriately, then.”
