Summary
Laurel Drake was born in District Eight as the illegitimate daughter of a Peacekeeper. She spends her days earning money to help her overworked mother work a little less, playing oblivious to her father's pining, and training in martial arts with her little sister Sara under their Uncle Ted at the local gym. Having learned at a young age to keep her mouth shut like everyone else in Panem, she does her best to ignore the implications.
Oliver Queen is the son of Robert Queen and Moira Queen, two of District One's most famous Victors. Born and bred to be a Victor in his own right, Oliver is great at putting on a fake smile while ignoring the churning in his gut whenever he thinks about entering the arena. His path has been chosen, and much like everyone else in Panem, he knows better than to question it.
Then, the Seventieth Hunger Games rolls around. They're both eighteen years old.
Laurel is reaped. Oliver volunteers.
And Panem will never be the same.
(Or, where Laurel and Oliver are like Katniss and Peeta - except when they aren't.)

Summary
“You should watch where you’re going.”
Her mother’s voice rang out, calling her name again and her head whipped round. She saw from the corner of her eye that the man’s eyes followed her own to the voice of Councillor Griffin bellowing down the corridor.
“You should watch where you’re going Clarke.” He repeated, drawling her name – parroting Abby’s cries.
She snapped her head around and saw the corner of his lip turn up in vague amusement. Her arm moved before she had a chance to stop herself and it reached out to shove his shoulder hard, minutely moving him from his rooted spot.

Summary
Melancholy has a distinct color.
It’s blue, but not a rich blue of that of the deep sea. It’s the color of ice blowing off a glacier at dusk, pale and haunting. It morphs into deep blacks when it touches your fingertips and it swarms around a person like a thick fog, threatening to suffocate whomever its wrapped itself around.
Clarke is familiar. She’s familiar because its become a part of her morning routine: take a shower, apply light mascara, get dressed, and watch as the color of melancholy snakes around her hair, tinting the sharp blonde.
Melancholy has a distinct color, but even more so, it hugs you like a friend and betrays you like an enemy.
~~~
After tragedy alters Clarke’s outlook on life, she turns her back on everything set out before her: medical school, a life of privilege, and most importantly, family. When she rents a room in The Ark – a brewery converted into living spaces – she’s forced out of her comfort zone when surrounded by the tenants who live there.
Particularly a curly-haired brunette with a tendency to combine insults with historical references, intentionally keep her awake, and even most frustrating, make her not stop thinking about him.
What a dick.
