It was something of a rule that if a woman of a certain age found herself unattached and prone to attend local gatherings, sooner or later she would cross paths with Siegfried Farnon. And once crossed, it was, as a rule, not seldom followed by a mutual dance of suggestive conversation, unconventional flirtation, and more often than not the actual act of dancing (although the dance card would later be testimony to the fact that Mr. Farnon had danced with each lady once that evening, and once were all).
Audrey Hall was the exception to that rule.
