A Hurt/Angst/Comfort with a Happy Ever After ending.
"Penelope…” His voice cracked, hoarse, desperate for her to wake up, for this to be some kind of terrible nightmare.
But there was no response.
Her blood stained the cobblestones, and for a moment, Colin could not move. He was frozen, his mind reeling with a thousand questions, none of which he had answers to. What had happened to her? Why was she here, alone, and bleeding out in the street?
His heart pounded in his chest as he bent down to check for a pulse, his fingers pressing desperately against her throat. Nothing. No flutter of life beneath his touch.
The anger he had carried with him all these weeks, the anger over her deception, the betrayal of Lady Whistledown-His dear Pen—it felt so distant now, as though it had never mattered at all. All that remained was the cold reality that the woman he had always loved, the woman he had held in his arms, was now dead.
