Tooru was on the top of his game, the win he’d just snagged in the Portuguese beach volleyball championships only the prelude to a perfect off-season spent, he hoped, lying on a beach in Lisbon sipping Muay Thais. If his wretched heart was still half-way around the world where he’d left it, then no-one had to know that but himself. When he caught sight of a familiar face in the crowd, though, his best-laid plans began to derail. When, a few days later, he found himself roped into a road trip of international proportions, he could safely say that if nothing else, he’d learned one thing: never get between Shouyou Hinata and an adventure.

He isn’t sure when it happened. When Steve Harrington became his best friend. Maybe it was when he started spending so much more time at Harrington’s house than his own, and food and beer he liked miraculously started appearing in the fridge. Maybe it was when he showed up at four am with a bruise forming on his face and his shirt ripped at the sleeve. Maybe it was when Steve quietly told him about all the things that go bump in the night while the sun rose over the trees. Maybe maybe maybe.
All Billy knows for sure is that, as he lays here under the heat of the Indiana summer sun ( not as good as California’s, but better than the cold ), next to Harrington’s pool as the two boys pass a joint between each other, he’s probably the happiest he’s been in a while.

“Uh, I dunno’–” because he doesn’t, but he has an idea.
“Don’t play stupid with me boy,” Neil all but snarls, and Billy doesn’t have to look behind him to know Susan has gone stiff and Max is worrying her bottom lip. “That hideous mark on your neck. What whore did you let put that on you?”
Now, here’s the thing about Neil’s use of whore when directed at his son:
It doesn’t just imply girls. It did, once upon a time, but then Billy got caught with Daniel Harbinger in California and now whore can also mean faggot, so.
