But I think chaos itself is…natural, you know? The world around us thrives on chaos. Small changes make big differences. The butterfly effect, I guess. And, at its best, out of chaos comes creativity. I think it’s more about how we respond to the chaos that counts.”

Summary
Sydney had to start the dish from scratch and Carmy was content to watch, leaning on the counter while she assumed her place in front of the stove to finally, hopefully, get the pasta done.
“Why the intensity? It’s like…11pm?” Carmy murmured from behind her, still leaning on the counter.
Sydney turned her head to tell him distractedly “because I’m starving, Carm. That was supposed to be my dinner.”
Carmy suddenly laughed in what Sydney could only assume was surprise.
“What?” She asked, eyeing his reaction, mostly his laughter, with surprise of her own.
“I thought you were doing, you know, R&D or something. You looked so focused. It was…it was nice. To see.” Carmy replied, voice going softer, Sydney noticed, at the last parts of what he’d said.
Her cheeks began to feel a little warm. If anyone asked her what possessed her to be bold that night, she would probably trace it back to missing being with him in the kitchen. If she were to trace that back further, it would probably lead straight back to that ache she felt in her heart. The one that longed. The same one that missed.
