Summary
“You spent twenty years trying to come home.” Penelope says. Her hand is now playing with his hair, and he is almost ashamed of how much he loves her gentleness. Almost. He has long thrown overboard any guilt about taking what he needs to survive. Still, he shakes sometimes under her touch. “You are here now - and yet, when I look at you, you seem to still be away.”
There’s a false calmness in her voice. She is upset - not with him, but with herself. Understanding smacks his mind like a rough wave against a ship. He pulls away, so he can look at wife. He props his head up on his arm, and waits until their eyes lock to speak.
“I do not miss it, Penelope.” He says.A few months after their reunion, Odysseus and Penelope have a lazy morning together.
