He can’t sleep. It’s a cold summer’s night in the desert, the kind that makes a man long for a woman’s touch. Oppenheimer doesn’t particularly want that, never has, in spite of his actions that seem to speak the contrary. His wife who lays next to him in bed might as well be a corpse for how much she interests him. The same goes for the wives of his coworkers, who fall into his bed with a few lines of poetry and a fluttering of his eyelashes. The same goes for his coworkers, Feynman with his strong virility, Teller with his doth-protest-too-much hatred.
He wants something simpler than the bodies surrounding him.
He wants something holy.
He wants to fuck.
