My pride stings a little at being so underestimated by a species that couldn’t even outrun a particularly determined turtle if their life depended on it. Summary
Grace did, at some point, learn more about Eridian reproduction systems beyond the brief overview Rocky gave him when they first met. Eridians used to bury their eggs to improve the success of healthy hatchlings. Lower in the ground in its cave systems, Erid’s temperature decreases to a cool 130-150 degrees Fahrenheit. However, with modern technology, Eridians can improve the life expectancy of their young even further by securing the eggs inside incubation machines that cool them down to 95-100 degrees Fahrenheit.
It was super interesting to learn about all of this, and of course he chimed in, “that’s basically my temperature, you know?” But the scientist he was talking to already knew this. They got excited that Grace made the connection anyway.
"Yes, you would be a perfect incubator for Eridian eggs. There wouldn’t be any instinctual fear about predators stealing the eggs, if they were safe inside you."

“Leaky,” Rocky said. Grace shuddered. His vagina clentched down on nothing. Rocky's interface spread his lips again to follow where his slick gathered and tapped over his hole. “Rocky go inside, question?”
“Uh, I’m not—”
“For science,” Rocky said. He took Grace’s silence for assent and probed back inside. He moved too rough and shoved the finger all the way inside and then pushed up hard, as if trying to push the finger through Grace’s body.

Summary
Within Eridian clusters, it is very normal to mate with fellow members. Some mate bonds are primary, like my relationship with Rocky and Adrian. But others are secondary, taking on a more platonic shape. Eridians don't experience shame when it comes to sexual relationships between cluster mates. To them, sex fulfills a biological need, as eating does for me. It's not taboo to mate with multiple partners; in fact, it's encouraged for producing the most viable offspring. The more variation among worker cell DNA in the fusion process, the better.
That's where we are now. Multiple mates. Multiple clutches. All inside me.

"But Grace have sex in crew quarters sometimes."
"That's not— you shouldn't—" Grace shakes his head. He knows Rocky doesn't mean to make him uncomfortable. Heck, Grace's biggest problem at the moment is that the knowledge of Rocky watching him doesn't make him uncomfortable. Not in the way it probably should. "It's not really sex. Since I'm by myself when I…" he trails off and hopes that's the end of it.
"Rocky is here when Grace have not-sex."
"No, I mean—" Grace sighs and tries not to pull out his hair. "It's only me. Touching myself. You don't touch me."
Rocky sinks back on his hind legs and goes quiet in a way that Grace recognizes as careful thought. Stony fingers click together and drum against the aluminum composite flooring. When Rocky speaks next Grace nearly falls off his stool.
"Grace let Rocky touch, question?"
