Summary
Long before she becomes “Rook,” Fledgling Xan de Riva is eager to complete her first contract in Minrathous. Her first night, she gets caught up in a one-night stand with a beautiful woman, who happens to be working a missing persons case. Xan doesn't expect to see her again, until she finds the detective needs the Crow's target alive. They're forced to work together, infiltrate the Venatori, and hopefully survive... but what about after?

Summary
Rook was far from a saint given her profession as a Crow, but with the gods dead and some semblance of peace giving way to the more typical day to day strife, Xan de Riva worries that she's losing Neve one piece at a time to the Threads. Meanwhile, Neve has been mourning the pieces of herself lost long before a life of organized crime; the parts that died under the fires of a blighted dragon.
