Summary
I don't think anyone would ever say that Macklin Celebrini is a scientist, but he does remember learning the scientific method.
Observation: Mack and Will's friendship is...different.
Question: At what point will Will Smith perceive Macklin Celebrini's behavior as weird?
Hypothesis: A definitive line exists and can be experimentally identified.
Materials: One (1) Will Smith (Hockey).
Procedure: Increase the intensity of platonic behavior until the subject indicates the boundary has been crossed.

Summary
His ears are still buzzing all the way to the car. Mack feels like a live wire, shaky and elated, with his heart racing in his chest. Getting everything you ever wanted feels so good it almost hurts.
Will’s hands grip the steering wheel and they’re both still grinning – at the open road, at each other, at nothing – because they won the fucking Stanley Cup. It’ll never be better than this, Mack thinks and then Will reaches out and places a hand on his thigh.
Mack sucks in a sharp breath, the slight overreaction is swallowed by the music warbling from the car stereo. Will doesn’t take his eyes off the road and just when Mack feels like he caught his breath, he begins to rub circles into Mack’s thigh with his thumb, slow and rhythmic in his movements.

Or: Everyone knows that when a team wins the Stanley Cup, each player gets a chance to wish for their heart’s desire. Mack, completely unprepared, can only think of one thing when he’s finally holding the Cup: his best friend, who he's been in love with for years. Convinced he put a love curse on Will, Mack tries his best to repent and fix his mistake. But Will might have an agenda of his own this summer...
