Nestled between the lilies and roses you had spent so long tending, you lowered yourself to the ground, your eyes settling on the grave before you.
"There is a temptation to sorrow," he said quietly from behind you. "If you give yourself to it long enough, it starts to feel... comforting."
You let out a humorless laugh.
"God hasn't given me much to be comforted by, Father."
"... I don't believe that."
You finally glanced back at him.
"He brought you here." His voice was calm, measured. "And, in His own way... He brought me to you."
For just a moment, his eyes held yours. And for just a moment... you could have sworn his eyes betrayed him. Something dark smoldered behind them, not anger, not pity.
