Summary
“Bite the bullet,” grunts Van. “We get it, you’re clever.”
“Thanks for noticing,” Jackie fires back, her own edge taking bright shape with her smile. Then, addressing her girls again, “So who’s in?”
Hands slowly begin to go up in turn, but Jackie hardly pays them any mind. After all, of course this is a good idea, and surely a cabin full of teenage girls would rather play a silly game than sit around in grouchy, hungry silence.
No, her mind is set instead on Shauna, whose eyes dart between her teammates thoughtfully. Jackie’s always found it difficult to read her — what, with that practised teenage scowl of hers — but she hopes the thoughts that cross behind that thoughtful gaze match her own. None of this team-building shit is really ever as fun without her, anyways.

Jackie suggests a spin the bottle/truth or dare mashup to beat the boredom out in the woods (and maybe to have an excuse to see if she really does like kissing girls. Or a girl, singular.)

Summary
Sure enough, she glances down at her feet and sees – apart, of course, from the tattered blanket draped over her, one of the heavy woolly ones that always makes her skin break out in hives – tracks in soft, white powder she assumes would be cold to the touch rather than a party to the nose. Since when did it even snow here?
As the thought occurs, another one quickly takes its place: who the hell brought her into the meat shed and put this blanket over her?
“Morning, princess,” is the snarky answer to the silent inquiry, and Jackie’s attention snaps to where the voice came from, spotting a familiar, edgy silhouette leaning against the open doorway separating them from the snowfall.

Nat saves Jackie from freezing outside and helps build up Jackie's broken ego.

Summary
It can be infuriating, being Shauna Shipman. Despite all the ways you might even surpass Jackie – in speed, in performance, in lit class grades – you can never shrug off the permanence of your own inferiority, never catch enough gazes to not be overlooked.
And despite it all, Jackie still chooses to look at her like that. Irises swallowed up by a gaze both swelling with affection and darkening with hunger. Shauna Shipman has never felt more important than when Jackie chooses to look at her, see past everything that makes her second best, and draw her up from her own gloom, pull her into the orbit of her captivating radiance.
And it makes Shauna want to tear her fucking face off.
Suppose, then, making out with Jackie Taylor is as close as Shauna will ever get to realising that vicious little fantasy.

just another one of those slumber party makeouts that Jackie remembers so fondly, apparently
