"Are you okay?”
He flinched at the sound of soft French. It was still night and the girl from before was still pressed into his body. Her prominent bones jutted into his skin uncomfortably yet he found himself pulling her in closer. This confused him but his brain was too scrambled from the dream to even think of it. He blinked the sleep from his eyes, before settling back into the cot and trying to steady his breaths. She stared back up at him with soft, brown eyes, (that surprised him, though he was not sure why).
“You were speaking.”
“What’d I say?” He found himself lacing his fingers through her short hair, playing with it idly as she studied him. He didn’t know why he did this, but it slowed his breathing and she made no move to stop him.
“Just a name, Steve... I think...”

“I think.” The soldier started, blowing smoke between his lips, “I used to work by the water.”

“No… I don’t- I don’t know.”
