Hanahaki.
A curse brought upon by the gods themselves reserved for twisted, pitiful and hopeless hearts. A reminder that while love is a beautiful thing it is also deadly. A disease where flowers that seemed harmless and fragile grow on the unloved person’s lungs until they fill and take the person’s final breath.
The cure? If the person is fortunate, to be loved.
For the unfortunate, there are two choices. Fall out of love or death.
Kaeya had chosen the former. He debated about the latter but he had already uprooted his love before they had any chance to grow roots. He had convinced himself that his heart does not know love therefore there was no heart to love. That’s what he thought.
It worked. At least, up until now.

“Thank you…” Kaeya said softly, barely above a whisper.
Diluc blinked at him. “...Thank you?” He prompted.
“For inviting me inside. For not chasing me away.” Kaeya explained. “You would have had every right. What kind of weirdo lurks around someone’s estate in the middle of the night?” He said with a chuckle.
“You looked sad.” Diluc blurted out, and Kaeya blinked in surprise.
“...Maybe a little.” He admitted, a bittersweet smile on his face.
They danced in silence a little longer, until…
“I missed you.” They both said in unison.

Kaeya takes to wandering the grounds of the winery at night to in order to ease his own nerves. Diluc invites him inside, and Kaeya helps him practice dancing.

It would be one thing if all Kaeya wanted to do during his heats was find a mate. One thing entirely if the worst decision he could make would be actually going home with the honeypot trap targets for the Knights.
But ever since Kaeya presented as a young omega, two months after Diluc disappeared from the Knights and his family to go hunt Fatui for a couple years, Kaeya has had a fate worse than promiscuity on his hands.

As far as Kaeya's concerned, the worst thing about his heats isn't the possibility of sleeping with strangers and turning into a begging mess of subservience; it's the vulnerability that he can't ever sate during it. It's the desire for something a lot more shameful than sex. And when Diluc and he finally reconcile and begin a relationship, Kaeya's determined to keep dealing with that aspect of his condition alone.
Especially since Diluc, as a beta, can't possibly want to get his hands dirty with all that hormonal nonsense wrapped up in personal baggage. Right?
