Valentine’s death brought about a new era. Idris owed the Downworld a debt that Magnus was quick to cash in on. At the first meeting with the High Inquisitor, Imogen Herondale, Magnus introduced Alec and Jace. The return of the last Herondale helped push Magnus’ agenda. Alec on his part finally got the chance to reunite with his siblings.
Despite the years they had been apart Izzy and Alec easily reconnected. Izzy had grown into a beautiful and confident young woman. She had always been fascinated by the Seelies so having grown up with the Blackthorns she had visited the Seelie Realm often. Here she had met Meliorn and had fallen in love with him.
After Valentine’s death it had been revealed that the Seelie Queen had sided with him. Her mistake cost her dearly and she was overthrown and killed. In the resulting chaos Meliorn rose as the new Seelie King, supported by some of the most influential figures in the Shadow World.
With support from Imogen the Accords were redrafted to provide equal rights for all in the Shadow World. Alec and Jace were offered to co-Head the New York Institute, a position they gladly accepted to ensure the Accords were followed through in real life. It also made it easier for them to keep staying with Magnus at his loft and neither of them had any desire to return to Idris.
Magnus helped set up a Shadow World Council with representatives from all the races, himself representing the Warlocks while Jace and Alec represented the Nephilim. The Warlocks made Magnus their de facto leader after his success. However, his title as High Warlock was his favorite one.
A few months after these changes had been implemented change of much more personal significance happened in Alec’s life. Magnus and Jace coordinated their proposals to him with only days apart. Jace proposed first; intimate and affectionate, offering Alec his Herondale ring after making him breakfast in bed one morning after they had made love. Magnus had proposed after wining and dining Alec in Paris, including all the bells and whistles from roses to magical fireworks. Magnus had magic’d up a ring for him. As Alec had only one ring to offer, the Lightwood family ring, he had had Magnus magically duplicate the ring so he could offer a ring to both Jace and Magnus.
Alec had suggested he married his lovers at the New York Institute. By hosting the event there they would force Idris to acknowledge everything Alec wanted them to accept: That parabatai could be lovers and marry, same-sex relationships, relationships between Nephilim and Downworlders and finally also polygamy relationships.
Magnus had gotten the large banquet hall at the Institute magically decorated with colorful leaves and sparkling stars and lights.
Alec had at first feared what Izzy and Max would say about his relationship with Magnus and Jace but both had been supportive all the way. They proved it by proudly following Alec to the altar where Magnus and Jace were waiting.
Alec almost lost his breath as he was finally standing by the altar with Magnus on one side and Jace on the other. Both men looked breathtaking in their wedding suits, Jace in gold and black that highlighted his features perfectly and Magnus in black with lines of green, highlights in his hair and makeup green as well to match.
“You look amazing, darling,” Magnus told him softly, giving him a loving look.
Alec blushed and beamed happily.
“Yes, Alec, you look great,” Jace assured him, smiling fondly at him.
“So do you two,” Alec whispered back, awed.
They all smiled, almost aglow with joy as the Silent Brother, a friend of Magnus’, had them say their vows and exchange rings. Alec and Jace drew wedding runes on each other. For Magnus Alec drew his own rune while Magnus used magic to make one for himself.
“I now pronounce Alexander to be one with Magnus and with Jonathan, the two men who own his heart and his soul and thus complete him,” the Silent Brother proclaimed warmly.
Alec took Magnus’ hand and then Jace’s. As they turned to face the crowd everyone rose and gave a standing applause, making them all smile even wider. When they walked down the aisle magical leaves and stars fell over them, courtesy of Magnus.
During the wedding party the three of them only had eyes for each other. Alec was worried he was stepping on his husbands’ toes when he danced with first Magnus and then Jace but none of them were complaining.
They went on a romantic honeymoon before they returned to continue their focus to ensure equality on the Shadow World.
A few years after their wedding Alec brought up the issue of children. He had always wanted a large family and wanted to hear where his husbands stood on that. Both Magnus and Jace were overjoyed by the thought of becoming parents. Over the next few years they ended up adopting several children.
Sometimes, when Alec watched his children and his two husbands, he wondered what might have happened if things had turned out differently. What if instead of him coming to Wayland's mansion, Jace had come to the Lightwoods….what would have happened then? Would he ever had gotten the confidence to believe he was good enough as he had now, knowing he could never have fulfilled Valentine demands, knowing he had never been meant to succeed? Would he ever had admitted to loving Jace? Would he had had the courage to be himself and accept his love for two men? Would Jace have found the joy and peace he enjoyed now? Would Magnus have changed the world and found the family and love he had always been longing for?
Alec would never know but as he joined his husbands and children, he forgot all about it. They had found their own piece of Heaven in and with each other. That was all that mattered.
