Chapter Text
Steve had both hands in his hair sighing in exasperation. This was way harder than he anticipated. It already took 4 hours of his day. When he said he’d take care of it, he thought it would be easy, or at least easier than leaving it to Thor. Though maybe Thor was on to something when he explained about Asgard.
“Okay, I can’t take it anymore,” Tony suddenly cried out.
“Oh, hey,” Steve blushed, he didn’t even realize Tony was in the room. “What can’t you take anymore”
“The sighing, Steve.” Tony told him. “I thought we went over using a computer and internet. It still can't be frustrating.”
“Oh, no,” Steve assured him. “I’m fine with all that, thanks to you and Darcy.”
“So why the sighing?”
“I need to buy something. JARVIS gave me a selection of secured websites to check. But, I can’t find what I want. I’ve been going at it for 4 hours. I’m ready to give up.”
“4 hours?”Tony looked gobsmacked. “What are you buying that gives you so much difficulty?”
“A new bed” Steve answered blushing.
“Is there a problem with the one you already have?” Tony didn’t see how this would be possible. He reinforced the thing so much he had to reinforce the flooring too.
“It’s kind of broken,” Steve told him. He was only able to keep from blushing because Clint was trying to train it out of him.
“I didn’t realize the nightmares were so bad,” Tony said. “I’ll see how we can modify it.”
He seemed so distressed, Steve didn’t have it in him to let Tony believe there was a flaw in his design or that Steve was having extremely bad nights.
“It’s not the nightmares,” Steve admitted as Tony was leaving the room without his coffee.
Steve let his head fall onto the table after pushing his laptop away.
The one thing he didn’t want to do was ask Tony, but after 4 hours he didn't have a choice. It was Tony or Asgard. Bringing a bed from Asgard would attract Tony’s attention anyway.
“Care to elaborate?” Tony came back and grabbed the coffee he forgot about.
“My bed, and others,” he mumbled, “can’t take the weight or the activities of a supersoldier, a Norse God, and an enthusiastic and very flexible ex-carny”
“You’re…” Tony was doing a great impression of a fish. “You…”
“Nope, I did not plan for this particular combination when building your bed. Or, Thor’s for that matter,” Tony said after a while. “I suppose all three beds are broken?”
“No, we broke mine last night. We’ve only taken actual naps on Clint’s bed, so it’s fine. It’s also the last bed we have.” Steve explained. “We put our mattresses on the floor for now. Until I can find a new bed. Thor said if we don’t find anything he’ll bring his bed from Asgard.”
“This was a lot of information.” Tony admitted. “I’m gonna need more coffee.”
Steve watched as Tony made himself a new coffee.
“Here’s what we are going to do. First, JARVIS is going to erase all evidence. For my sanity,” Tony explained. “ I don’t want to be tempted to watch.”
“Second, bring both your mattress into one room and you'll have a bigger surface. Keep Clint's for naps.”
“Third, get the bed from Asgard. I'm not building you a new one. I’ll reinforce the floor. “
Tony walked away. He was going to take a nap’ then he’ll ask Jarvis if the conversation really happened.
