Chapter 4

♪‣Crazy Girls•♪

. Chuuya

If Chuuya was being honest with himself, he hated this idea of Dazai’s. As he did most of his ideas, but this had to take the cake. He didn’t go through all that mess to escape Yokohama only to be locked up by some weird animal who was way too interested in Dazai.

It reminded him of Mori.

Alas, he found himself crammed into a car with the principal of UA, Aizawa and Dazai. A recipe for disaster, he found out. It was definitely Dazai’s fault, after all the bastard couldn’t stop poking him between his ribs. He knew Dazai knew he hated that! So yes, Chuuya ended up somehow on Dazai’s lap with his hands around his neck but that was a perfectly valid reaction.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t continue with his quest to murder his fish of a partner when Aizawa stepped in, “Please stop. You could hurt yourself.”

And isn’t that strange someone, outside of Dazai loathe he was to admit, cared about his wellbeing. That in itself was strange. The Port Mafia was never a place for care. That’s why Chuuya and Dazai showed it in the most incomprehensible ways. After all the line between hatred and love was very thin and Dazai and Chuuya frequently used it as a jump rope. Nonetheless, he removed himself from on top of Dazai and sat back down into his seat before he could get comfortable again, “Seatbelt,” the hero grunted out, rolling his eyes, but not wanting a fight, Chuuya pulled the seatbelt and clicked it into place, securing it around his torso and sinking into the seat.

Despite his best attempts to ignore the growing feeling of anxiety, it wouldn’t let him. It amplified and projected all his negative emotions right back at him. It was unbearable, but he couldn’t show it. Weakness in all forms was not tolerated. Mori drilled that into him enough.

Weakness is not accepted here. Understand Chuuya?

Dazai looked at his sulking with a tilted head and an unreadable look in his eye. Somehow Chuuya knew that Dazai could tell what was up. Afterall Dazai scooted over and placed his hand around the back of his neck, fiddling with his choker. A gift from Dazai after the whole Verlaine situation. He felt the cool, numbing wash of No Longer Human fall over him. He leaned into Dazai’s hand, how anyone could hate the feeling he'd never know. Yes, he was now essentially powerless, but he knew Dazai wouldn’t harm him. He trusted him. He—

Chuuya cut that thought off, this wasn’t the time for those thoughts, around enemies, although they claimed to have their best interest in mind. Chuuya could practically smell the ulterior motives. He didn’t trust them as far as he could throw them, and Chuuya could throw them, especially Nezu, very, very far. Yet, Dazai had a plan, and that meant in the end they’d turn out on top. No matter how much hell getting there took. He hoped the top included leaving the damn school though. He was not buying into that hero academia bullshit. Not for as long as he lived.

Chuuya turned his head towards Dazai only to be met with the boy’s neck. He figured he might as well sleep, since Dazai was offering to be his lookout. He had a feeling he wasn’t going to get his full 8 hours for a while. He leaned further into the boy’s embrace as the rumble of the car lulled him into a thankfully, dreamless sleep.

---

When Chuuya woke up it was to Dazai unbuckling his seatbelt as Aizawa got out of the car. It seems they had arrived at their personal hell. Grabbing Dazai’s arm, Chuuya opened the door and slid out of the vehicle. It was sunny, and the breeze blew strong bringing a fresh summer smell. It was nice Chuuya had to admit, he didn’t appreciate the wind blowing his hair into his eyes though. Other than that, if not for his location, he’d be happy, it’d be like the vacation he and Dazai had imagined. The one they knew they’d never get. So long as they were under Mori’s service. They could enjoy all the riches and benefits afforded to them by the mafia’s blood money, but a vacation was one thing they could never get. The risk of defection was too high. What if they decided they liked fucking off to some random island after visiting the Caribbean? Mori couldn’t risk it.

He looked up, blocking the sun to see the large H-shaped building. The building was completely covered in blue glass and wasn’t that certainly an interesting architectural choice. The school was surrounded on all sides by large cement walls, with several cameras scattered around the perimeter. It would be hard to sneak out unseen.

He looked at Dazai when he felt his gaze on the side of his face. He cocked an eyebrow, what do you think?

Dazai’s eyebrows scrunched in reply, its different, we may need to employ code rabbit.

Rabbit? Chuuya supposed that was a good course of action, after all since they’re here for ‘rehabilitation’ they might as well garner some sympathy, that way when they inevitably leave, they could do so easier. Dazai’s plan had merit, but that didn’t make Chuuya any happier to carry it out. Just imaging the looks of pity these children would give him. How they’d feel so sorry for them because the ‘heroes’ didn’t save them. How they’d bash his home city, his family in the Port Mafia, though they wouldn’t know that’s who’d they’d be bashing. It sickened him. He hated it already. Just the glances Aizawa were giving to them was already making his stomach churn.

“Aww Chuuya are you upset?”

Chuuya was confused, why the hell wouldn’t he be upset, and he turned to Dazai and said as much. He pretended he didn’t see Aizawa slowing his pace so he would be within earshot.

“Silly Chuuya! You’re a dog who has to act like a rabbit!”

Chuuya could feel his vein pop, his bastard was going to give him a stroke before the end of his insufferable detour on their quest for a vacation. “For the last time you damn mackerel, I am not a damn dog!” he gritted out, jaw clenched and teeth grinding. He really hated Dazai at times. These times specifically. It was almost as if Dazai was trying to make him lose control or activate Arahabaki.

With how worshipful he is when that beast is out, he wouldn’t be surprised if he was.

Chuuya shook his head. What’s with all the dangerous thoughts he’s having today, he needs to get it together, before something slips and Dazai teases him for the rest of his life, and beyond the grave. Instead of replying to Dazai’s teasing rebuttal of, “But you lost the bet~!” he slips his hand out of Dazai’s and marches forward to Aizawa, gesturing for him to continue as Dazai whines and runs to catch up with him.

He doesn’t acknowledge when Dazai places his hand back into his. They never do.

As the trio walks into the building Chuuya could see several teachers and students milling around. Eugh, hero students, their optimism is practically oozing out of them, he feels sick of this already.

He snaps out of his thoughts when he hears Aizawa call out to them, “This way. You’ll be introducing yourself to the students of my class and then going up to the dormitories.”

With that he sped off in the direction of what Chuuya assumes is his classroom. Chuuya and Dazai trailed after him, apprehensive. At last, after 5 minutes of walking, this building was far too damn big, they arrived in front a large door, what is with everything being massive?

The door had ‘1-A’ posted on the top displaying the class name. ‘A’... a hero class, and the best one to boot. Chuuya wondered what these kids had in them that allowed them to join this class. If he was being honest, he wasn’t exactly expecting much. He was willing to be surprised. Noise permeated from the door; he guessed that Aizawa’s class was a handful. He could swear he heard desperate screaming for inside, and… explosions? What was going on behind that door?!

Aizawa paid no mind to the concerning screams and slid the door open. The class immediately quieted, Chuuya was impressed, but at the back of his mind he made the comparison with the grunts in the staff room of the mafia headquarters. They silenced themselves immediately when a higher rank entered. Makes sense though, despite this being a school, they were breeding soldiers, and Aizawa seemed like the no-nonsense types.

Aizawa nodded in satisfaction, “Today we have two new students,” before the questions could begin to be launched at him, he placed hand up, “They entered as a part of the reformation programme UA has.”

“So, they’re damn villains?!” Chuuya couldn’t see who made the statement, but he didn’t appreciate it. He had a gut feeling they would not get along well.  “No, just delinquents, petty crimes. They have a chance for redemption and to become a hero.” Chuuya had to hold back a snort. The riot that would occur when his students found out he lied blatantly to their faces. Delinquent? Petty crime? That hilarity of it all nearly had Chuuya bursting out in laughter, but that would give them away. Instead, he shared a knowing look with Dazai and enjoyed the joke that was presented to them silently. They could laugh about it later in the dorms. With that, Aizawa expertly ignored the protests and waved both boys into the classroom.

Dazai un-wrapped his octopus-like hand from around Chuuya’s hand and linked it with his elbow instead. As they walked in Dazai’s demeanour shifted to suit the agreed upon plan. Boys who hid their sweetness under a layer of prickly spines. Dazai took up the less confrontational role, but when spoken to had words as sharp as knives, while Chuuya took up a more upfront role, masking with violence rather than sarcasm. It invoked sympathy once whoever they were dealing with realized it was just a front to ‘protect themselves’. It was a role for the long haul.

Chuuya straightened his back and stared at the wide-eyed students of 1-A. “The name’s Nakahara Chuuya. Don’t. Call me Nakahara.” He said sternly, stressing the ‘don’t’, perfect they’ll think he has family issues, just as he planned. He loved to have fun with family roles, he could make up whatever narrative and adapt, since he didn’t have a blood family, it was easy to pretend, there was no weight of the truth. The class looked startled at his confrontational start, and he could see a spiky blond in the back snarling right back. He was probably the one to call them villains. He could see the class did not know what to make of him and that’s just what he wanted.

He nudged Dazai forward, urging him to introduce himself, “Dazai.” He said shortly, nothing more, quickly pushing himself behind Chuuya. It was an odd sight, seeing a boy so much taller trying to hide behind him. Chuuya wondered what the students saw from an outside perspective, he wondered what Aizawa saw more.

“No first name?” he heard some confused murmurs from the students as they looked around at each other trying to gauge the opinions of their classmates.

“Now that’s that over with, I’ll have them answer 3 questions so no shouting and choose wisely.” Damn that Aizawa, what the hell. He was sure this was some sort of plot to gain information, after all he probably thought that by having people their age ask them, they would lower their guard and make us more likely to answer the questions.

The class immediately gathered and started having a meeting. They were treating this simple task as a life-or-death mission with the way they were seriously discussing it, but before anyone could open their mouth a loud voice rang out clearly. “Are y’all extras damn villains?!”

Well, that was one question wasted, even if they were, why this boy thought they’d say yes was beyond Chuuya. But Aizawa did say to answer their questions. Chuuya simply opened his mouth and let a blunt, “No,” out. That did not seem to be the answer the boy wanted, but before he could stand up and probably cuss them out, another student covered his mouth. Despite the thrashing and banging the teen was doing, the red-haired boy was doing well holding him down. The hair was an interesting choice, Chuuya wondered if it was natural, crazy hair colours seems to be the norm here. Although Chuuya was coloured oddly as well, blue and brown eyes and ginger hair was not something you saw every day.

It was quiet again for another few minutes while the students decided on their last 2 questions. Once a consensus was reached a navy haired boy with glasses stood up.

“I am the class president Tenya Iida, and I would request you answer these two questions,”

Chuuya and Dazai tilted their head for the class president to continue.

“Where are you from and what are your quirks?”

Chuuya frowned, on one hand he was happy they were easy questions, but they were so boring. Nonetheless, he answered them,

“Yokohama.” The class gasped, horrified. Right, he forgot about the reputation the city had here. Oh well, it’d garner more pity, even though he again, hated it.

“And my quirk is gravity manipulation, his is nullification.”

Aizawa seemed surprised, but then he remembered Dazai had interrupted him before he could state his quirk in the previous interrogation with that lie detector cop.

The class erupted in their own small conversations with Chuuya catching snippets like, ‘just like—’ and ‘so cool—’. It amused him to no end.

Aizawa realized that the class was quickly becoming rowdy and ushered Chuuya and Dazai out of the classroom.

“Now we’re going to the dorms, try to remember the way.”

With that Aizawa lead the way to the dorms. After 10 minutes of walking, they arrived in front another H-shaped building. They really loved this damn letter. Over the door was the words ‘1-A Alliance,’ could this school get any cheesier? Aizawa opened the doors, and they were met with an expansive living and dining room, with a kitchen located to the very back. This place was massive, but it had to house 20, now 22 people so Chuuya conceded on his dislike for the size.

Chuuya and Dazai were led up 2 flights of stairs and herded to a door at the back. “We only had 1 spare room, so you two will have to share.”

That was fine by Chuuya, it’d make look out, and nightmares, so much easier to deal with. Chuuya stepped in front of the door and opened it to find a simple undecorated room, with a bed, a desk and a closet present. It wasn’t his apartment by any means, but it’d do. Chuuya dragged Dazai, nodded at Aizawa and shut the door.

Chuuya and Dazai listened for the retreating footsteps before breaking character and bursting into laughter.

“Petty crimes! A riot!” Chuuya and Dazai cackled. They stood there hunched over laughing over the experiences of the day for what felt like hours. Chuuya didn’t want to be here, but it was definitely proving to be entertaining.
