Word Building
-so that you won’t be confused
Note that these words may not have the same meaning in real life. This is only my interpretation!
Black Butterflies (Black Swallowtail butterfly)
- a symbol of transition, renewal, or rebirth.
These kinds of butterflies represent the spirits of people who are not able to pass through the afterlife and remain in the land. Lingering emotions are one of the reasons why they cannot pass through.
White Butterflies
- a symbol of misfortune and an omen of death.
Spirits are what they’re called in this book and are not butterflies
but are small winged humans, but they’re not humans (if that makes sense), they take the form of a white butterfly to conceal their image from other creatures and humans. They are smart creatures that only follow someone they deem worthy of their presence and power.
Elders are what they call the highest and oldest ‘Spirits’. The elders are the ones who mostly communicate with whoever desires to contact them. They can only be contacted through ‘summoning’, which consumes too much energy and magic. However, they will not always answer the summon and decline the call.
Chapter 9
Silence enveloped the house of the Kims after the event that occurred a few hours ago.
They decided to talk about it after Jungkook woke up, which would be a few minutes from now. ( Don't ask them how they knew they just did.) Yoongi and Hoseok decided to stay in the bedroom where Jungkook was currently sleeping.
Namjoon was in his library with books surrounding him to calm his mind. After Jungkook fainted and convulsed while holding Yoongi’s hand, they panicked on the side, hands scrambling to support the convulsing bunny hybrid, holding him in his arms as his body continued to writhe. He desperately needed to clear his mind after that traumatic event.
The last time that Yoongi experienced a vision was maybe 2 or 3 centuries ago and ended up with them somehow still being in one piece. Sharing another vision after centuries of not having one will inevitably take a toll on–not just Yoongi–but all of them, especially since it involved Jungkook, based on what they saw. Visions are primarily warnings. What happened in those visions is false and will never occur in real life. However, similar events may happen, but it will be a sign for things to look out for, and related events may occur.
Seokjin decided to try contacting the elder of the Spirits to confirm their motives towards the hybrid. It had been a while since he contacted them solely for the reason that involved him and his coven. He’s standing alone just a few miles away from their boundary chanting the spell that he needed to contact the elder.
They have been refusing to answer his calls for the past months since they started appearing in front of Jungkook.
Persistent to avoid confrontations as always.
He heard a soft sound of a bell and immediately frowned.
The elder has answered his call.
‘Seokjin-ssi’
A bright white light appeared, almost blinding him.
“Elder” He greeted.
‘What may be the reason for your call?’
He scoffs. “Pretending is not going to take you anywhere, Elder.’’
The man in front of him smiled widely. Even though he's almost 9 centuries old, his face and body appeared as if he just turned 20. ‘A sight for sore eyes’ some people would say but for Seokjin he’s a huge eyesore.
‘Please. You can stop calling me Elder. We go way back 4 centuries ago. We’re brothers now.’
Seokjin gave him a small smile. “We both know we dislike each other too much to be relaxed with each other, elder.”
The Spirit chuckled. ‘To what do I owe the pleasure of meeting one of South Korea’s oldest and strongest vampires?’
“What is your purpose for approaching one of my darlings?”
‘Oh, you mean the adorable hybrid your coven has been continuously entertaining.’
Seokjin hummed. Annoyed look in his eyes.
‘He’s been such a sweetheart, no?’
Seokjin stared at the spirit. Either this incident has never happened before or Seokjin just never heard of it. The Spirits have taken a liking toward Jungkook. At least that’s what Seokjin thinks at the moment.
‘A few of my little sprouts grew fond of that hybrid, Jungkook was it? A pure soul embraced with so much innocence.’
“Enough.” The vampire glared at the floating light of the spirit. No longer patient.
“Tell me the reason why you and your little devil sprouts keep approaching Jungkook.”
‘So impatient, Seokjin-ssi.’ The spirit tutted and crossed his arms, a serious expression taking over the haughty expression on his face.
‘If you’re persistent on knowing why then I suggest we take this conversation somewhere else.’
Seokjin snapped his fingers. Teleporting him and the spirit into his study inside the coven house.
“Talk.” The vampire demanded. His eyes show a bright red color showing his power over the spirit.
His power alone could kill the elder if he wanted but he needed answers. The thought of killing the spirit can come again later.
‘The hybrid does not belong in your coven, Seokjin-ssi.’
Something in Seokjin snapped. He eyed the spirit in front of him. “Be careful of what comes out of your mouth.” his voice full of venom
‘I would never lie to you. What would I get if I lied to you, Kim Seokjin? Nothing.’
Tension was present in the room, increasing the moment the elder answered.
Right.
What would he get from lying to him?
Nothing.
He won’t gain anything from lying to Seokjin.
“Why do you think so? You don’t have the power to see the future, nor do you have a seer with you.”
Anger simmered in Seokjin’s everything.
‘I have eyes, Kim Seokjin. I see how you treat Jungkook every time he’s with you. I know that you and your darlings want the hybrid to join your coven and maybe someday turn him.’
Every thought in Seokjin’s head seemed to pause.
They have been talking about it these past few weeks.
*Flashback of their conversation*
“Jin-hyung.” Hoseok called softly. He was alone in their nesting room when a thought suddenly entered his brain.
Seokjin arrived in the nesting room with an elegance that only he had. No matter when or where the old vampire seems to have his way of doing things. He just sparkles with elegance no matter what he does.
“Yes, my sunshine?” Seokjin said after greeting his mate with a soft kiss on the forehead.
“Jungkookie’s living with the Ims, right?”
Seokjin hummed. Hands immediately landed on his mate's waist.
Hoseok smiled and pecked the other vampire’s lips. “I was thinking…why don’t we ask him to move here. With us.”
Interest filled Seokjin’s eyes. His other mates probably heard their conversation because he felt their bond tingle with happiness and excitement.
“Hmm, do you think our little bun would say yes to our offer if we ask him to stay here instead?” Intrigued with the idea that the bunny hybrid would stay with them, he gave his mate a slight grin.
Hoseok beamed, noticing that his mate and coven leader had considered his idea.
“I think Jungkookie would think about it and may take a bit of convincing but I think we got that handled if we ever asked him.”
“I think so too, hyung,” Namjoon replied, appearing beside Hoseok.
“I think we need to have another coven meeting, don’t you think?” Seokjin suggested.
That night when everyone gathered in their living room, the discussion about Jungkook staying with them was brought up, and they agreed that they should ask the bunny hybrid immediately to stay with them. Asking Jungkook if he would agree to be courted by them resurfaced.
“How about asking him to be courted by us?” Taehyung asked. He was giving Yoongi little nips on the neck lazily when he thought of the topic that they have avoided every coven meeting they held. “When will we ask him?”
Nervousness echoed their bond.
“We can ask him tomorrow if you want him so much, Taehyungie,” Jimin replied.
Taehyung scoffed. “Hah. I would if I could but I know you would never let me ask him without all the grand gestures we want to do to him.”
Jimin smiled sweetly. “Don’t worry Taehyungie, you’re not the only one who’s desperate to ask him.”
“All of us are desperate at this point,” Yoongi responded.
Chuckles filled the room. Everyone agreed with that statement.
The vampires are desperate to finally have the bunny hybrid with them. Even if they won’t ask him if he wants to be courted, having him in their home where they can see him every day is already enough for now.
“We should ask him on his birthday,” Namjoon suggested.
A chorus of agreement followed his statement, then silence.
“I’m quite confident that he’ll agree to us courting him,’’ Hoseok said.
Curious eyes stared at him. “Why do you say so, Hobi-hyung?” Jimin asked.
“I’m pretty sure I’m not the only one who sees the looks he gives us, right?’’ Hoseok answered.
Yoongi hummed, “Does he not look at the Im Coven the same way?”
All of them sighed heavily. “Why does Kookie have to be so sweet?!” Jimin said, frustrated.
“Let’s say hypothetically,” Namjoon uttered, “he accepted our invitation to court him, and he accepted our offer to be our mate later on” Namjoon looked at them “do we bite him then?”
For a moment, it felt like time had stopped.
Seokjin cleared his throat, breaking the heavy silence that fell upon them, and spoke.
“When the time comes, we will eventually ask Jungkook if he’s willing to turn himself to be like us. For now, let’s not think about that yet. Let’s do all this step by step, yes?”
That night the meeting did not end how they wanted it to end. Too many unsaid thoughts and unanswered questions, but no one was willing to speak. As if bringing up anything concerning the bunny hybrid will set them off into a spiral of want and need.
*End of Flashback*
“And what of it does it concern you, elder?” Gritting his teeth, Seokjin was sure that he was slowly losing control over himself. His original appearance slowly showed itself, black sharp and long nails, too sharp fangs on both sides of his lips resulting in a wound, and crimson red eyes staring straight at the Spirit’s eyes.
‘The hybrid’s body will not accept your venom, vampire.’
Seokjin froze, his heart aching painfully.
“What do you mean?”
‘You’re an ancient vampire, Seokjin-ssi. Have you ever heard of a hybrid turning? No, right? Because it’s impossible.’
Heart-wrenching pain enveloped him.
“How do you know that if we try, it won’t work? What if it did work?”
The man sneered at him.
‘Don’t think as if you’re so special Kim Seokjin,’ A mocking laugh followed his statement. ‘Do you think you’re the first ever of your kind to do something outrageous?’
Seokjin remained quiet. He’s almost as old as the history books can go but it never occurred to him that there are just things that are impossible to do or achieve. He’s been alive for so long that he has a solution to every problem, having to experience them in his long life, but maybe it slipped his mind that there are things he cannot do and have.
‘Many have tried and all of them failed.’
The Elder’s eyes pierced right through him.
“But why do you follow him? Why do you want him?”
A hint of pity flashed through the spirit’s eyes.
‘Because he’s kind and pure and we spirits love that. That’s it. No other reason.' A laugh echoed inside Seokjin’s study.
“That’s it?”
Seokjin couldn’t believe his ears. The spirits were known as mischievous, dishonest, and selfish. They were never the type to approach a random person or creature just because they were kind.
Seokjin sat up straight.
“I want to know if there’s still a possibility, even just a small percentage, that we can turn Jungkook?”
The spirit sighed heavily as if the question was asked more times than he can count.
‘Yes. There is a small chance that you can change him.’
‘But there’s a lot of things you need to pay, not money-wise but something more than that, and no one has ever tried to do it.’
“Why?”
The spirit stared straight into his eyes and answered him.
He could feel his soul if he had one,
His heart, if he had one,
His breath, if he had one,
Taken from him.
If he was human, then he’d feel like dying.
‘Because you will give him a new life, Kim Seokjin. A clean slate. Your memories of each other will be gone permanently and there’s nothing you can do about it. His feelings and emotions will disappear. He’ll be a blank canvas.’
