Work Text:

Aigis stares at the night sky as she waits for the fireworks show to start. The summer festival is nearing its end with all that’s left is a grand firework display as its climatic finale. Aigis isn’t alone as with her is Makoto Yuki, the boy she’s sworn to protect and always be by his side. Makoto had chosen a hill for them as their primary location to watch fireworks from. He said it would give them a great view which Aigis had deemed as acceptable.

Aigis had been curious about the summer festival ever since it was first brought up and wanted to participate in the event. Mitsuru thought it was a wonderful idea and even had a yukata prepared for the android girl. On the night of the festival, Makoto accompanied Mitsuru and Aigis which greatly pleased the latter. As much as she wanted to experience the festival, Aigis also didn’t want to abandon her objective of staying by Makoto’s side. Now, she gets to do both.

During their outing, Aigis learned valuable new information about human culture in regards to the summer festival. The blonde gynoid had tasted takoyaki for the first time that brought a pleasurable taste to her senses, which she shared with Makoto for him to enjoy as well. Aigis also learned the existence of masks and the purpose they hold for human activities. The blonde gynoid wonders if she should’ve bought one when she had the chance. Masquerading as a different version of herself would’ve been a valuable experience for her database.

Aigis looks down at the bag of marbles in her hand. She had initially won a water pistol from one of the game stalls, but she traded it for the marbles at Mitsuru’s request. After the exchange, Yukari showed up at the festival and dragged Mitsuru with her and Fuuka, leaving Aigis and Makoto by themselves. Since then, Makoto and Aigis explored different areas of the festival and participated in more games, leading to their current location at the top of the hill for the fireworks show.

“Did you enjoy your first festival, Aigis?” Makoto asks his companion. Just her, the blue-haired teen is also staring at the night sky as he waits for the show to start.

“It was a pleasant experience to have, Makoto-san. I was able to gather numerous valuable information thanks to you and Mitsuru-san. However, I’m still puzzled by the nature of that shooting game. If I was allowed to use my firearms, I surely would’ve knocked down the target no problem.” Aigis reports, and Makoto lets out a small chuckle right after.

“Maybe it's for the best, but I’m glad you had fun tonight, Aigis.” Makoto responds before the conversation ends with complete silence. Aigis stares off downwards as she observes numerous couples lying on the side of the hill holding hands. Earlier, Makoto had mentioned that he and Mitsuru should hold hands with Aigis to keep her from venturing out too far, which the blonde gynoid had viewed as a method of restraint. Now Aigis wonders if Makoto had a secret reasoning for the handholding that's similar to the couples down before. From her knowledge, boys Makoto’s age do love harems after all

“What about you, Makoto-san? Was the summer festival to your liking as well?” Aigis responds back with her own question.

“As a matter of fact, it was. It’s the first time in years that I actually enjoyed a summer festival.” Makoto concurs which Aigis quickly picks up on that last part.

“Did you not partake in a festival during your past?” Aigis questions as turns her head to face Makoto, who doesn’t give a response at first. He stares at the stars quietly as if contemplating on what he’s going to say. Makoto then lets out a somber sigh and lowers his head down.

“No. I was alone growing up. These festivals are meant to be enjoyed with friends and loved ones. It’s all part of the appeal, but I had no one to go with. I guess that’s why this year was so different.” Makoto laments as he fiddles with his mp3 player.

“I comprehend. The reason why my time at the festival was enjoyable was because I had you in particular to go with. I do not believe I would have enjoyed it as much if I didn’t get to be by your side.” Aigis admits, which catches Makoto’s attention. The blue-haired teen looks at his robotic companion as she continues to watch the night sky. A smile forms on Makoto’s face.

“I got you something. I won it at one of the game stalls and was planning on giving it to you. I guess now’s the best time.” Makoto reveals as he pulls a small duck plushie and hands it over to the android girl. Aigis stares at the duck with intrigue and accepts the gift.

“You won me a gift?” Aigis asks as she inspects the toy duck in her hands. The texture of the duck plushie is extremely soft and squeezable. Makoto nods his head to confirm as he shyly looks away to hide his blush.

“Since it’s your first time attending a festival, I wanted to do something nice for you. Do you like it?” Makoto wonders as he peeks a glance at Aigis’ reaction. The android girl is smiling at the small duck plushie before looking up at him with that same smile.

“It’s a marvelous gift from you, so I shall treasure it forever.” Aigis declares as she brings the duck plushie close to her chest. Her answer only brightens Makoto’s blush.

“Y-Yeah, but it can’t be that great, can it?” Makoto tries to downplay, but it fails to convince Aigis.

“Any gift from you will always be marvelous because you are my highest priority. You are important to me.” Aigis responds, leaving Makoto stuttering and blushing even harder. Aigis tilts her head in confusion as she notices how red Makoto’s face had gotten.

“Makoto-san, are you alright? Your face is quite red, but I’m not registering an illness with you from my scanner.” Aigis inquires as her face moves closer to his. Makoto’s eyes widened from how close Aigis is to him to the point that their lips could touch with one more step. Complete silence dominates the scenery as Makoto and Aigis stare into each other's eyes. The only thing Makoto can hear is the pounding of his heart as it beats with anticipation. With a single gulp, Makoto takes the initiative and leans forward.

The moment their lips meet, fireworks begin to light up the skies of Tatsumi Port Island. While everyone else attending the summer festival is enjoying the spectacle that is the fireworks show, Makoto and Aigis are enjoying their own special moment together. As their lips break apart, Makoto’s and Aigis’s minds immediately process what just happened.

“Shit! I’m sorry! I didn’t know if-” Makoto rambles in a panic, but Aigis quickly stops him.

“Makoto-san, it’s okay. I quite enjoyed it.” Aigis interrupts, calming the blue-haired teen down and shocking him at once.

“You did?” Makoto asks still in disbelief, and Aigis gives a quick nod in response.

“Affirmative. I don’t know how to quite explain it but when our lips had touched, I felt a pleasurable sensation inside me, specifically in my chest. It felt nice. Is this what they call love?” Aigis explains with an expression that Makoto didn’t see on her before. A human expression of joy and love, causing Makoto to smile at the android girl.

“It is.” Makoto confirms, which only further brightens Aigis’ mood.

“I comprehend. Then let’s explore this love together, shall we?” Aigis proposes as she offers her hand to Makoto. Without hesitation, Makoto takes it.

Afterwards, the newly formed couple watch the rest of the fireworks show, hand in hand with their fingers interlocked. The fireworks are an absolutely beautiful sight from the various colors they displayed. Every single one amazes Aigis, leaving her guessing which type would come next. This summer festival has been an unforgettable experience for the android girl, and it was all made better thanks to her beloved Makoto Yuki.

Notes:

I know I said last time I wouldn't have a fic for Day 5, but then I had this idea pop up in my head a little while later.
