IF YOU ALREADY READ MY OTHER FIC SKIP THIS CHAPTER; THIS IS ONLY TO CATCH UP TO WHERE WE LEFT OF FOR NEW READERS.
“Filthy beasts!”; “Ugly monsters!”; “Disgusting animals!”...
Insults one after the other was all Wemmbu could hear trying to scramble up off the ground to get to his brothers and run out of there as quickly as they could.
They tried coming into another village (the sixth one this week) but the answer was always the same: “Go away!”...they were unwanted everywhere.
Was it because of how they looked? They couldn’t control that! Nobody could! So why are they always the ones to get thrown out and beaten just because of their appearance?
Wemmbu and his 3 siblings were always outcasts; that's how they found each other. Wemmbu was the oldest, so he took responsibility, he wanted to make their lives better than his; but in the end he himself was also still just a kid.
“Wemmbu, I’m hungry!” Spoke was the youngest, they all grew up faster then they should have to be able to survive so they were quite smart for their ages!
At least that’s what Wemmbu thought.
He hadn't been around other kids all that much as they would bully him or ignore him, most of the time just running away.
Wemmbu was tall (not all that tall but above average) despite being malnourished, and had purple skin along with a darker purple shade of hair, his eyes were fully black except for the golden iris.
That’s what made him stand out, and he hated that. Oh how he just hates so many things....
Wemmbu turned towards Spoke, the six year old curled up next to his other brothers, Parrot and Flame.
Parrot was second oldest at just 8 years old and flame not far behind being 7 years old.
Wemmbu was a mere 14 year old. What would he do with 3 kids younger than him that are starving and in need of a shelter?
Wemmbu didn't have the answer for that.
But he knew he could make it somehow.
He will give his brothers a good start to life no matter what! - except they already had started life and now he is trying to fix what was broken.
He quickly stood and walked over to them helping them stand.
His poor brothers looked shaken up with all the insults and yelling thrown at them.
They were just kids. They didn't know what was going on or what those people were referring to - like how cruel can you be?!
“Here have an apple Spoke.’’ Wemmbu's voice was gentle, calm. Even he didn’t know how he managed to remain calm for his brothers.
“Is there any other place left for us to go?” Parrots voice was filled with something more, uncertain, skeptical like something was immediately going to go wrong, which was understandable, they had been looking for shelter ever since they were kicked out of their home, (something Wemmbu was not going to recall) each attempt to another life, a different start, a home near people: was a fail. Villagers hated them, said they were cursed, demons, monsters.
Wemmbu picked up Spoke, the kid already falling asleep in his arms after eating the apple.
“Yes, Parrot, it’s a long way but I'm sure after all this travelling there is not much left to Capital City. If it’s a place as big as I heard people describe it, then maybe there is still hope to find someplace that we can stay at.”. Wemmbu heard about Capital City from strangers passing by, he listened enough to make a rough map of where they would need to head.
And so the 4 kids started yet another journey to a place they hoped would take them in. Hope still remained in them even after all these years of rejection, Wemmbu was the one making sure they still had hope, though his own hope ran out a long time ago.
It was nearing the end of the day when Flame spotted something out in the distance:
“Bro look! Lights like- a lot, I’ve never seen so many!”
They settled under a big oak tree to rest the night so they have energy to travel even more tomorrow.
Wemmbu came near the little tiger hybrid and sighed “Looks like we still have a while to walk.” he said to himself.
Once he made sure everyone was knocked out on the leaf bed he made, Wemmbu started to scout the area looking for either a good path or any food he could find. Lucky for him he spotted the road leading to Capital City in a few minutes and marked it on his imaginary map.
He also spotted loot where someone had been killed: A few pieces of armour, a couple of tools and some food - It was good enough for the night for Wemmbu so he took the loot and headed back to the big oak where he left his brothers so he could finally rest himself.
The next day Wemmbu was woken up by the blinding sun slowly rising. He rubbed his eyes and stood up to prepare everyone for today.
He looked through his inventory, he had enough stolen diamonds to hopefully rent out a house for the four of them and buy some food. He looked over his shoulder to see Parrot, Spoke and Flame sleeping huddled together “Soon…” he thought “We are going to have a home, a real home.”
He pulled out the bread he had gotten the night before from his inventory, he had more than enough for all of them.
After watching the sun rise a little more, Wemmbu woke up his siblings, fed them and resumed their journey.
Arriving at the big gates of Capital City, Wemmbu couldn’t help but notice none of the guards were looking at them like wild beasts, instead looking at them like they were just another regular group of humans.
Wemmbu and his brothers all watched in relief as- instead of being thrown out- the gates were opening to let them in.
Wemmbu was carrying Spoke and holding onto Parrot who was holding Flames hand. The three kids were staring at the big buildings when suddenly someone approached them.
“Hello, there!” a female voice rang out as Wemmbu turned to see who it was.
Standing in front of him was a lady with pink hair and orange eyes. She was also wearing a blue and orange sweater and had flowers in her hair.
She was holding a clipboard and slightly jogging up to greet them.
Wemmbu took a step back, startled by the sudden appearance of this person.
“Are you new here?” she asked “I’m Fymada! I can show you around or… help you find your parents!”
Wemmbu looked at her skeptically before responding “We don’t have parents, or a place to stay.” he said bluntly before turning his head away, too embarrassed to say anything else.
Fymada looked at the boys- they were too skinny and dirty, they must have been walking for a while, and were starting to outgrow their clothes. She looked for them for only a couple of seconds before deciding-
“Would you like me to take you in – uhh just for a while then i can get you a real home!-” she stammered trying to not scare the kids away.
Wemmbu looked at his brothers who were already nodding at the lady like their life depended on it.
Fymada sighed in relief, she was a kind person, always looking out for those in need- too many times some may say, so she couldn’t exactly keep everyone she finds - but what would just 4 kids be until she finds them a good home?
The girl smiled and held out her hand to Wemmbu who had his hands full holding on to his brothers. She stopped a little before asking to hold onto Spoke as they walked back to her house.
Inside her home was cozy- it was a small cabin somewhere in the middle of Capital City. It was lit with the soft and warm lighting from the sun and though it seemed small it was rather spacious inside.
“Stay here while I make you something to eat and get a new pair of clothes for you all!” Fymada chimed as she pointed at the soft couch in the living room.
Wemmbu still didn't know if they should trust her yet- she might make them work or do favors to stay here- something Wemmbu would do if it wasn’t for his brothers being too small to be able to do a lot of things by themselves.
As Wemmbu was deep inside his thoughts, when he felt all his brothers tear away from his sides to go jump around on the couch- Spoke had long since woken up from the slumber in Fymada’s arms and requested to walk alone- Do these kids even have survival instincts?! Wemmbu panicked at the thought of Fymada seeing his brothers jump around like that when all of the sudden he heard a laugh coming from the side-
Fymada was looking at the kids jumping around in joy and laughing, amused by their excitement.
That made Wemmbu relax a bit seeing her not caring about how crazy his brothers were and approached them.
Wemmbu had told Fymada their names on the way to the cabin- she kept trying to make him talk a lot and tell her more things about themselves.
Wemmbu didn’t know whether he was making the right decision or not, but at least they had somewhere to stay the night and rest properly.
It was the next day after they got taken in by Fymada, Wemmbu slept with Spoke on the extended couch while Parrot and Flame took the guest bedroom.
Spoke was snuggled tightly and warmly against Wemmbu’s chest. Yesterday must have taken a lot out of the voidling as, after they played and ate, Spoke decided that was not enough and started to play-fight anyone that approached him.
Wemmbu really liked snuggling with his brothers, a warm feeling rose up in his chest every time he did, they were his kids, his babies and he will never forget that.
They got changed into fresh clean clothes too, Wemmbu was really thankful to Fymada, after all, she was really the only person that ever brought them into a warm home and accepted them.
Wemmbu opened his eyes and looked at Spoke.
He was hugging Wemmbu tightly, as if he might leave any second, and had his face pressed against Wemmbu’s chest.
He smiled as he rested his chin on Spoke’s head and hugged him closer. He thought about how he should check on Flame and Parrot- As those thoughts came to mind- he heard a small thud and footsteps coming out of the guest room.
Right then Parrot poked his head out of the hallway being greeted by Wemmbu’s head popping up from the couch.
Behind him was Flame- holding a blanket that was given to them by Fymada to make sure everyone had their own blankets and none got stolen by another.
They approached the couch Wemmbu and Spoke were on and snuggled up to them.
The tiger hybrid started purring as Wemmbu adjusted everyone to fit in his arms.
Wemmbu started purring with affection as well (he can do that??????)
The four brothers were sleeping when they heard Fymada coming down to wake them.
She took one look at them and her heart filled up with warmth -they were all soooo cute!!
She decided to let them sleep in while she made breakfast and made some lemonade.
After eating Fymada wanted to take Wemmbu out to show him around Capital City when “Why won’t you take us too??” Spoke could be heard whining from the living room.
“You guys stay here and rest. Okay? We are going to the markets to get you guys some more stuff. We’ll be back in no time!”
“Take care of Flame and Spoke. Got it? Don’t get into trouble, I’m counting on you, alright Iris?” Iris was a nickname Wemmbu often called Parrot, it’s a flower that symbolises intelligence, something Parrot had- the boy loved learning new things and Wemmbu thought it was fitting.
“Got it! You can count on me, Wem!” Parrot was gleaming with proud courage, he was going to be in charge so he can boss his little sibling around (he won’t be too hard on them tho- he isn’t all that).
While walking through the markets Fymada told him about Capital City, about the mayor, the people he can and can’t trust, how to escape from bandits, how and where to shop and so on…
Wemmbu who was walking beside her was listening well, (Quite unlike him) wanting to learn as much as he can so he can be independent and finally live comfortably with his brothers.
After walking for a while they stopped in front of a small market stand.
Inside was an old lady. She looked like someone who had been through a lot, but she also looked fierce- like she might jump at someone out of nowhere.
“Well, Fymada. What have you brought here this time?” The old woman was speaking in an overly sweet tone- Wemmbu thought she was being rude.
“Isn’t this your 3rd kid already? You’re too good. Toughen up a little!”
“I know Miss, but I can't! There were 4 kids and they just needed my help! I’ll find them a good home soon enough so they won’t be here for long!”
The old lady looked at Wemmbu for a few seconds longer than needed, which startled Wemmbu a little but he quickly shook it off.
After the interaction Fymada bought what she needed and continued explaining to Wemmbu, who was asking a bunch of questions, how everything works.
Coming home Wemmbu took in the sight- there seemed to be nothing wrong with the house- or at least he hoped.
He looked around, there was no sight of his brothers- Where the hell have they gone?!
He walked cautiously in the kitchen, Fymada was still out, arranging some plants that got knocked over by the wind.
He looked around again but still no sight of the 3 musketeers.
He came looking in the living room slowly calling out to his brothers- “Iris?...Flame?....Spoke?...”
Suddenly he heard slight giggling from behind the door of the guest room-the next spot he was headed toward.
Wemmbu knew what was about to happen when he opened the door- he braced for impact and slowly looked in the room.
Suddenly- like he predicted- The three devils jumped up at him - no - tackled him to the ground.
Wemmbu let out a soft groan of pain as he felt the three kids jump on him and hit the ground.
Laughing, the kids tried escaping- but to no use.
Wemmbu already caught each one and embraced them in a suffocating hug while laughing.
They didn’t even realise when it got dark out. The kids spent the whole afternoon playing around - they played outside with a ball Fymada had and built sand castles in the yard.
Wemmbu hadn’t felt this type of happiness in years- maybe- just maybe- everything was going to be fine.
This day had started out differently. It had been a week since Fymada took them in. A week since Wemmbu felt fear - until now.
He knew Fymada had been asking around who wanted to adopt kids. He knew what could come with a family that only cares about reputation. He knew that he couldn't let himself or his brothers be separated. He knew he didn’t want to be adopted by other people. He knew Fymada had the intention of giving Spoke away first. He knew she was going to separate them - who would want to adopt 4 kids?
He couldn’t listen to her explanations any more. She was a kind person, but finding a home for each of them separately was easier, safer, and they could still see each other.
But it wouldn’t be the same.
How could it be when he won’t be able to snuggle up with his brothers again.
How could it be when they won’t have each other to rely on when they all will be completely separated?
How could it be when they don’t have Wemmbu- their oldest brother- the one who promised to take care of all of them until he dies?
It will never be the same!
He left the kitchen- Fymada pulled him away somewhere his brothers wouldn’t hear what they were talking about.
Wemmbu knew one thing - there was a cabin - it had long since been abandoned and it was out of the safety of Capital City- but it was a home, that, with enough love could be theirs.
He found it when he went out exploring, leaving his brothers in the care of Fymada in the meantime.
It was pretty big, with enough rooms and space for everyone.
It did need a lot of love - Nothing Wemmbu couldn’t fix!
Fymada’s friends came over and taught him some more things- like how to fix pipes and repair homes.
He didn’t think he would need those skills but listened anyway.
He was glad he did now!!
He still had a few days left before Fymada finds a good home for his brothers. They were younger so Fymada wanted to hand them off soon since they would adjust better the younger they were.
Wemmbu decided it was official - every night he would sneak out and slowly repair the home until it was liveable inside - then after bringing his brothers he could work on it some more.
He had a job now too- it was nothing much - just some volunteering here and there but as long as he earned money to be able to continue living was good enough!
He might have saved up enough to buy all the supplies he needs as well as some things for the rooms his brothers will stay in.
He figured he could just prepare two rooms for now and make everyone sleep together - Sounds good!
He won’t tell anyone just yet, he couldn’t risk anyone finding out.
He felt like he let his brothers down.
When they first met Fymada they looked so happy. Happier than they were in years. He couldn’t just take that away from them. Not when they were starting to be healthier and putting some weight on. Not when…
No.
No.
No.
He needed to focus on the future.
Not on the mistakes that he was going to fix.
He had to look forward.
His brothers are never going to be separated from him.
He had to continue working.
He picked up the wood he chopped down and started walking towards the cabin.
It was night and he just put his brothers to bed before sneaking out.
He was pretty sure Fymada found out he was going somewhere but she didn’t mind.
He was at the age when he wanted to go exploring more. She wasn’t about to stop him - let the kid have his fun!
So he went.
He built.
He worked.
A few hours later, as he was walking back, he noticed someone.
It was far into the distance but he could make out the white the person - or - thing, was wearing.
Wemmbu approached slowly. Careful to not be spotted.
It seemed he wasn’t as careful as he thought he was. The figure turned toward him scanning the area with its eyes before locking onto Wemmbu.
Hesitant, Wemmbu called out “Hello?…” the figure seemed to snap out of whatever state it was in and brightened significantly.
Taking a closer look Wemmbu realised the figure was an angel hybrid- its wings fluttering in the slow breeze of the night.
“Oh, Hello. I’m Eggchan, I didn't mean to scare you, my bad.”
“Uhh.. I’m Wemmbu… uhh.. what are you doing out here at this hour?”
“I could ask you the same thing. Heh just kidding, I’m star gazing, there is supposed to be a really big meteor shower today.”
“Star fan?”
“Heh nah it’s just cool. Now your turn. What are you doing out here at this hour?” Eggchan’s voice was cool, nonchalant.
“I’m just heading back at my place. Nice to meet you, Eggchan.”
“Oh, call me Egg.” There was a pause before Egg started again “ what type of hybrid are you? You don’t look like a normal demon.”
Wemmbu froze. He knew he wasn’t exactly a demon but he didn’t know what he was either. He had a big tail with scales all over, horns at the top of his head, lilac skin and bright purple hair. His eyes were black except for the gold and purple highlights in his pupils. He had sharp claws and more scales covering small parts of his body, elf ears and sharp fangs, he would say he looked like a demon that had been holding his breath for too long.
“Uhhh…. No idea bro. What about you? You don’t seem like a regular seraphim.” Egg was a seraphim or often called - angel hybrids. Although he was different. Instead of the soft baby blue eyes angels had, his eyes were darker, ocean like blue, the hair that was usually supposed to be pure white, had red ends, and his wings were significantly smaller as well. “Quite unusual for an angel to look like you huh.”
“I’m a fallen angel.” Eggs' tone was quiet, a regular human wouldn’t have even heard him. Wemmbu stayed still and the silence stretched over them like a thick weighted blanket.
Slowly they started talking again.
They asked questions about each other (they were the same age so they got along rather well) and laughed at the stupid jokes they made. Slowly they didn't even realise how the sun was already rising.
“Oh shoot. The sun is up already, I gotta go back to my brothers.”
“Same time and place tonight?” Egg was looking up at him, not bothering to stand up.
“Bet. See you later!” Wemmbu was already running off to not worry Fymada about his whereabouts. He felt proud. He made a new friend, a good one hopefully.
And so he left, arriving at Fymada’s place just in time. No one was awake yet, so he could sneak back in like nothing ever happened.
He sat on the couch where Flame was sleeping. The brothers took turns sleeping with Wemmbu.
Though he wasn’t there at night, he always came back in the morning to sleep and stay with his brothers.
It was an arrangement that was convenient for the time being, fixing the old cabin at night, then coming home to his brothers sleeping peacefully, except now, he had a new friend.
Spoke was going to be leaving for his new home any time soon. Fymada managed to find a family that was willing to take him in.
Lucky for Wemmbu he had Eggchan now, who was practically glued to his side ever since they met.
Egg got introduced to his brothers, and even helped him with the cabin, though most of the time he liked to spend in the town's library, reading and writing books.
Wemmbu couldn’t be more thankful for him. Egg helped him get stuff for the cabin and babysit his brothers whenever Wemmbu wanted to have some alone time and train in PVP. (he had been watching the city guards and travelers train and was just copying their moves)
It was also decided Eggchan would remain with them for a while, there were more than enough rooms in the cabin to even have extra studies, which Wemmbu was sure Parrot and Egg would enjoy spending time in.
There was only one thing left to do: make the escape plan for everybody. Wemmbu thought it would be easy, he just had to say he was taking them all on an adventure with Egg.
Hopefully Fymada won’t suspect a thing.
He had met Spoke’s “future” parents not too long ago. Well it’s more like one parent.
His name was Leo. A regular human, he seemed nice enough but there was just no way Wemmbu was giving up any of his siblings to anybody!
Later the same day he was supposed to be making the escape plan, he was eavesdropping on a conversation Fymada was having with some guy named "MinuteTech", he had heard his name being mentioned so he wanted to know what they were talking about.
“You’re having trouble finding a family for him?” The man’s voice was cool and nonchalant, almost like Egg’s a bit.
“Yeah I’m also worried no one will want to adopt him, he is over the age most people are looking to adopt. I managed to find people interested in adopting his younger brothers but he is 14, 6 years older than Parrot, the second oldest.”
“I could take him in?”
“Oh, wait, really?” Fymada brightened on the spot “Would you really?”
“Yeah, introduce me to the boy some time, I’ll be glad to take him in. Hopefully he will be cool living in the end. Speaking of the end, I must go now. It was fun meeting with you, Fymada, I’ll come another time to meet the kid.”
“Come soon, and be safe!” Fymada chimed as she waved him out.
Another reason to leave as soon as possible.
