Chapter Text
Wemmbu doesn't know how he got here. Well that is technically a lie, he knows what happened but not how it led to the current scenario. Not that he's complaining.
It had all began oh so long ago, but it started with a little cottage hidden deep[ from society, with only the trees and rivers as company. Inside this quaint little cottage lived two beings, two living legends. One a being of peace, holy and pacifistic, An Angel. And the other a being of destruction, of death and terror, something unnaturally-natural, A Wither artificial, soaked in Void something natural. And yet these two make a strange pair, living away from all people. The Wither defying his nature and carefully learning peace, ignoring the instinct to destroy and be violent, for the Angel. And the Angel something holy and revered at the side of a being widely regarded as a Beast.
The Angel and the Wither met when they were but children, innocent to the worlds nature, unaware of its cruelty, living alone in a forest not unlike the one the cottage now resides in. The Angel stayed at the Wither's side through everything, trust woven, a bond forged stringer than any steel. When Rulers cruelly came seeking the Wither to use as a weapon, the Angel- although a pacifist, stayed at the Wither's side. Eventually the two grew tired of all this conflict between kingdoms they could care less about, and they disappeared away from it all to a place for just them, a forest just like when they were small and innocent.
He is making the trek away from the quiet cabin to the nearest town, which is quite a distance away, be he wouldn't change it for the world. The town is named Wheat City, although it is to small to be a real city he remembers asking a inhabitant once and they had said the name was a hope for what the place would become. It is as he approaches the cities walls expecting to be greeted with the scent of fresh baked goods, instead he is greeted by the harsh scent of ash and screams. Rushing in through the gate, grand skeletal wings unfolding as he takes to the air, his blood thrumming in his veins at the familiar taste of destruction cloying his throat. That's when he sees it the people of this town he has grown familiar with being attacked by bandits most horrible. Without a moments hesitation he pulls his trusty mace from his back and folds in his wings, plummeting down onto the aggressors, hearing the crunch of bone and the splat of blood. He doesn't stop, immediately taking back to the sky and coming crashing back down, the scent of blood filling his senses, his blood thrumming, toxin pooling in the back of his throat. He only stills once the last of the bandits is nothing more than gore beneath his heel, turning his attention to the man he knows is the towns leader.
"Where were your protectors?" He inquires. "Gone. He has disappeared, taking his weapon with him, we have lost our warriors and our greatest protector. You have all our thanks." The towns leader tells him, his voice tinged with grief and deep gratitude.
Worry taints his heart, he cares for little other than his best friend and yet somehow these people pull a twinge of sympathy from his heart. Although the origin of his worry is more so that if people ever find the cottage and ruin the peace he has chosen.
"What weapon did this great protector of yours have?" He inquires, he knows that he has plenty of spare weapons laying around perhaps he could spare one, it would be unpleasant if this town was destroyed.
"It was a Mace, strong and steeped in magic" The town leader says.
Mentally he swears, because of course it had to be a mace, a weapon rare and coveted, and while he does have a old damaged heavy core, repairing it takes so much magic its one of the reasons why he hadn't done so yet. But it is with a sigh that he says his next words.
"I will help you.." He says with a sort of weariness be cause this is going to be so inconvenient. The man before him lights up at his words.
"Oh, Thank you! Thank You!" The town leader says, looking like he will start crying from joy.
"It's whatever.." He brushes off the gratitude not sure how to feel about it. "Oh. Uhh, what's your name sir?" He barely remembers to ask, stopping mid turn to make the inquiry.
"Oh! The names Stephan laddie!" The towns leader says.
With that information stored away in his mind, he fully turns away to make the journey back to his home. "Well, i will be back soon Sir." He calls over his shoulder.
He makes the journey all the way back to the cottage, pushing open the door he steps into the familiar warmth, letting the scent of lavender fill his senses much gentler than the stench of blood.
"Egg!" He calls into the cottage, voice ringing clearly.
"I'm in the sitting area, Wemm," The familiar monotone of his best friend rings out. He walks deeper into the place he calls home until his eyes land on the Angel, sitting with a cup of tea and a book, an incense burning on the counter behind him.
"Did you get the stuff?" Egg asks him, looking at his Very empty hands.
"Uhhh.. well about that" He intones awkwardly rubbing the back of his neck. "Sooo.. i may have stepped in and helped against some random bandits or something, and may have agreed to bring them a mace.. which means I gotta fix up that old core.." He says with a almost nervous smile, even though he knows the Angel won't care.
"Bro. How, i though we were trying to avoid conflict and shit" Egg delivers with false disappointment.
"We are! I'm just helping, aren't your always going on about how I need to socialize more and shit!" He exclaims with playful indigence, enjoying the banter.
"Anyway! I'm gonna go start the process of repairing the heavy core," He drawls as he walks down the stairs leading to their basement.
He pulls the damaged core out of the chest it has been in, gently setting it on the counter. He pulls a out bottles of enchanting, several breeze rods, and some dragons breath. He starts by grinding down the breeze rods, pouring the dragons breath into the powder mixing it together until its a thick paste, then he starts putting the paste into the divots and cracks, then he brings it over to the fire place and creates a fire around the heavy core. After a good few minutes he grabs a bucket and puts out the fire, then waits until the heavy core has cooled some. He brings it back to the counter and then carefully pours the solid magic over the heavy core, the magic seeping into the material, repairing the heavy core. He looks it over checking top see if he needs to do anything else, he finds it's surface looking exactly as he expects it to. He grabs a sturdy block of wood and starts the process of combining the handle and the heavy core. Once he is done he lifts up the newly constructed mace, and then he sets off again, gifting the mace to the town.
This is simple act of kindness somehow spiraled into something much bigger before the Wither even realized it. The town expanded, into a proper city, and then into a proper kingdom. People fleeing from the cruel Monarchs of kingdoms far away came to the town seeking sanctuary, hearing the story of the person who gave the townsfolk their greatest weapon. And meting the Wither when he came into town, either to purchase wares or help train the guards something Stephan somehow convinced him to do. It is only as he finds himself being consulted on matter that he realized he has somehow gotten a whole kingdom built around him. Egg laughed so hard at him when he finally realized, but he couldn't bring himself to turn away all these people so he compromised and adapted. It really wasn't that different the people were basically independent, only coming to him for really important things. It had actually been Egg who forced him to move from their cottage into the castle that was built, he wouldn't know it until much later but that was a very good decision.
The newly blossomed Kingdom of Evercrest thrived, peaceful and welcoming, taking in refugees and gaining a reputation of never starting a war, but always being the one to Finish It. War being one of the few reasons he was ever actually disturbed, other wise the Sitting Ruler, was the one who did all of the actually Ruler duties. It is a strange system but it is one that works. However it is through the reputation of this grand kingdom that Horrid Greedy Monarchs spread lies of a evil Demonic creature serving as the secret of why Evercrest is so strong. It is these cruel royals and greedy people that bring Evercrest's ire, and yet are also reason for Evercrest's greatest blessings found their way to the kingdom.
