Chapter 1: Ignorant bliss

Chapter Text

Spoke had done it he was going to get out of that stupid game and kill Jamato, he didn't need Mapicc for that neither Jumper he could do it without an army.

just watch.

"I'll kill him." Spoke muttered under his breath pausing feeling someone behind him.

"Ma—" Jamato hit Spoke dead on with a mace to his head rendering Spoke unconscious on the ground where he had just stood.

Jamato let out a sigh of relief, he didn't care about the other prisoners escaping.

putting his mace away he leaned down looking a Spoke's face making sure he truly was unconscious, no games.

seeing the blood that had made it's way out of Spoke's nose Jamato could safely assume Spoke was unconscious, so Jamato picked Spoke's body up.

"what if he has memory loss?" underscore commented eyes wandering down to look at the void-ling in Jamato's arms.

"all the better." Jamato cleared his throat his voice showing no clear emotions, Jamato pushed past underscore on his way back to the main prison; Underscore followed closely behind hesitant but not enough for Jamato to notice.

Jamato had brought Spoke up with him to the 'tunnels' that cover the roof above the prison, they where long gone from where the hunger games arena was.

Jamato took Spoke took the medical ward after all having him die would ruin all the fun.

"get him in restrains." Jamato clicked his tongue placing Spoke on the bed watching as Null guards placed restrains around Spoke's wrists and ankles.

"tell me if something happens." Jamato adjusted his clothes before pivoting on his heels making his exit back to his pod(/office).

Jamato's boots clicked rhythmic sounds against the stone floors that alerted Null members to move out his way especially in the state he's been in for the past week with Spoke reeking havoc in his wake since he arrived.

perhaps it was better the void-ling had been knocked unconscious for the time being.

once Jamato reached his office he closed the door harshly behind him, pulling his gloves off dirtied from having touched Spoke.
tossing the gloves aside he sat at his desk pushing un wanted papers to the side so he could think without clutter.

what to do with Spoke when he wakes up? is what Jamato had wrote on the top of a lined piece of paper, hoping that getting his thoughts out would help him more then staring at a wall and letting his thoughts race.

drumming a pencil against his forehead it was clear Jamato was out of ideas "force him to take the pearl cannon again? no, that wouldn't work." he muttered his frustration ever brimming.

then a knock came at Jamato's door.

"what?" Jamato questioned his tone rigid already on his last straw.

"sir, Spoke has woke up." a unsure voice came from the other side of the door not daring open said door.

well so much for thinking about what to do, now its time for execution.

Jamato got to his feet with a huff "alright I'll be there soon." he said gesturing at the door even though the Null guard could not see him.

Jamato kept to his word after a few moments of hesitation he exited his pod heading back to the medical unit.

Underscore found his way to Jamato's side who walked into the medical room with enough anger to silence anyone who was about to talk to him.

"sir—" a Null member began before being silenced.

"Spoke, you've finally awoken." Jamato grinned bringing his hands up at his sides.

Spoke tugged at the restraints "huh… hi Jamato, where are we?" Spoke gave a confused look towards Jamato.

Jamato blinked with his own confusion for a second, why was Spoke acting buddy buddy with him? was this a new manipulation tactic? all questions Jamato couldn't answer.

Underscore seeing Jamato confusion leaned over to Jamato "he has memory loss, sir." Underscore then resumed his position leaving Jamato frozen.

Jamato's hands came down to his legs "I didn't hit him that hard."
the Null members that had been over seeing Spoke seemed to shake their heads in gainsay.

regaining himself Jamato painted a smile across his face before muttering "guess we'll see how much you remember." quiet enough only Underscore heard.

"Spoke, what's the last thing you remember?" Jamato shifted so he was beside the bed side now, closer to Spoke.

"um, can you let me out first?" Spoke asked pulling on the restraints once more.

"no," Jamato narrowed his eyes his performance already tearing at the seems "answer my questions then I let you out."

Spoke groaned still as stubborn as ever "I don't know we where exploiting." Spoke whispered the last part to Jamato.

Jamato blinked "we?" he tilted his head they had not exploited it months—no years.

"uh, yeah." Spoke said like it was obvious "I don't know why I'm in the hospital now…" Spoke continued to tug at the restraints.

Jamato tilted his head surely hitting his head didn't send him back a year…

"bro, can you let me out these things are bugging me." Spoke complained shifting on the bed he lay on attempting to get comfortable but the restraints seemed to be unfavorable in this act.

Jamato sighed "not yet. what did you do yesterday?" Jamato continued to push as if Spoke would slip up.

"Jamato, sir he's—" "I wasn't asking you." he promptly snapped his attention back on Spoke who was swaying back and forth where he sat.

"I told you already..!" Spoke groaned swaying more aggressively.

with a huff Jamato unlocked the first of Spoke's restraints, "I'm just being thorough." clearing his throat Jamato spoke again "are you certain the last thing you remember is exploiting?"

Spoke shushed him, and nodded "no need to start boasting about it."

"I wasn't. do you know who these people are?" Jamato gestured at the Null members.

Spoke took a good look around the room, "people with weird names and emo skins?" Spoke gave his best guess (he wasn't entirely wrong).

shifting on his chair Jamato made a quiet hum shifting his gaze to Underscore for a moment before back at Spoke.

Spoke circled his fingers around where the restraints had been. he hadn't complained about the fact restraints still encircled his ankles, more focused on getting his hands free for what ever reason.

Spoke paused for a moment staring off into the nothingness that was the door in front of him, unblinking before wincing and grasping his head.

Jamato watched this occurrence as if studying Spoke in till he winced and Jamato began to speak once more.

"what's wrong?" his voice was edged with genuine worry he had to shove down to appear more cold.

"I have a headache…" Spoke responded pressing the heel of his hand into his forehead, "the light its bugging me. also when will you tell me why I'm here?" Spoke began to jaunt.

"one thing at a time," Jamato took Spoke's hand off his forehead replacing it with his own "you're at a normal temperature." Jamato gestured at Underscore to dim the lights; to which he did.

Jamato adjusted a hand to Spoke's shoulder which caused him to flinch which led to a cavalcade of Jamato taking his hand off Spoke's shoulder clicking his tongue.

"lie down." Jamato order more then asked.

Spoke while hesitant obeyed leaning back resting his head on the pillow, rubbing his eyes as if his vision had blurred.

"bro, just tell me what's going on.." Spoke was ever acquisitive while making an attempt to shift to his side while laying down failing in doing so due to the restraints around his ankles.

"I will tell you, soon". Spoke pressed the heels of his hands back into his forehead wincing.

"do you need pain killers (or health re gen if you wanna get minecraft-y with me.)?" Jamato asked his hand hesitating to grasp Spoke should ultimately deciding against it.

Spoke nodded other wise un responsive.

"Underscore grab a glass of water." Jamato ordered before taking a pill bottle from the Null medical person.
Underscore came back shortly after glass in hand handing it to Jamato who sat the glass down on the end table before gesturing Spoke to sit up.

Spoke sat up sluggishly with a whine before taking a pill from Jamato's hand, and taking it into his mouth before promptly swallowing it and Jamato handing him the glass of water which Spoke then sipped at.

Spoke shortly after went to hand the glass back to Jamato almost dropping it before Jamato caught it and set it down.

"I feel nauseous…" Spoke complained his voice some what slurred as he went to lie back down.

Jamato put a hand on his back "then sitting up." he pursed his lips frustration at the void-ling being to brim despite his delirious state.

"don't yell at me.." Spoke murmured pressing to his fingers to the corner of his eyes pressing in to his tear ducts causing his eyes to water slightly from the pressure.

Jamato was unsure if this was on purpose or not "I'm not yelling." his tone edging fulmination.

Spoke promptly grabbed at his own jaw grumbling about his previously stated nausea, Jamato took Spoke's hand from his mouth pulling it back down to his sides, "stop shifting so much."

those choices of words caused Spoke to whine leaning to the side which led to Jamato propping him up using his hands.
Jamato adjusted Spoke to be seated with his back against the wall.

"you're making it worse by moving." Jamato showed a certain about of care that made near by Null guards some what confused, but none the less they stayed silent.

perhaps Jamato didn't yet resent this concussed version of Spoke for he didn't remember all the wrong he had done.

Spoke winced pressing his head against head board blinking over and over again as if something was in his eyes, Spoke then went to bring his legs to his torso failing due to restraints.

"take them off?" he pleaded, Jamato complied ordering Underscore to release the restraints around Spoke's ankles; which he did so.

Spoke promptly pulled his knees to his chest clutching his head. Spoke was never sagacious even more so now with his fogged mind, continuing to shift where he sat.

"calm yourself." Jamato shifted where he sat placing a hand on Spoke's knee.

"my head hurts," Spoke complained clumsily reaching at Jamato's fore arm for support "why?"

"you hit you're head." Jamato lied smoothly, as if he felt he could save this version of Spoke by withholding information.

pressing his hand back to his fore head spoke mumbled a "mkay…" Spoke tossed over to the side laying down and closing his eyes "night… my head hurts, still…" he mumbled pressing his eyes close.

Jamato eye's ricocheted towards the Null medical person as if asking whether he should allow Spoke to sleep; the Null member nodded it was alright.

Jamato brushed a strand of hair from Spoke's face a small kind gesture that may or may not have scared Underscore for what would happen to Spoke—after all he was suppose to be betraying Jamato at the moment.

Jamato hushed the prying eyes dimming the lights further and shooing everyone out of the room with the exception oh Underscore.

his eyes seemed to scan over Spoke's sleeping form as if any moment now he would return to the moments before he was knocked unconscious and try and kill Jamato.
but he didn't.

Underscore found himself checking the time many time over in the course of an hour where he was 'forced' to stand while Jamato sat almost un-movingly in watch of Spoke; it was creepy…

Underscore knew Spoke and Jamato where brothers and while Underscore didn't have siblings he assumed normal siblings wouldn't watch each other sleep or try to kill one another.

but then again they where found family, not blood siblings.

thankfully Spoke began to stir in his rest causing Jamato to shift as well. when Spoke opened his eyes he was met with Jamato sat in front of him only blinking at him.

"hi..?" Spoke uttered hesitatingly unsure why Jamato had(/was) staring at him.

"you're awake." Jamato stated the obvious which make Underscore shift uncomfortably in the darkness of the room.

Spoke nodded looking through Jamato for a few moments as if he was lost in thought just frozen; before he snapped out of it blinking.

"it's too dark…" he muttered eye's wide as if he was scared.

Jamato shot a quick glance towards Underscore who knew that was his sign to adjust the lighting.
the room yellowed causing the bulb to hum a low buzzing noise that by have been due to the frog lights that they used to light up the room.

"better?" Jamato questioned with a hand on his chin titling his head slightly, Spoke nodded resting his head back on the pillow before he spoke up once more.

"where are we, Jamato?" he questioned—still acquisitive despite his injury. closing his eyes for longer periods of time that could almost pass as a blink.

"do you want to see?" his voice was impending causing Underscore to back up slightly weary.

Spoke seemed to think for a moment before nodding beginning to sit up in the bed; shakily he adjusted himself to have his legs dangle off the bed.
Spoke went to stand failing and landing back on the mattress, Jamato came to a stand and offered a hand to Spoke.

this whole interaction had Underscore on edge when had Jamato ever acted so kindly?

Spoke took Jamato's hand and was hoisted upwards, Jamato adjusted his own stance to take in the extra weight practically holding Spoke up.

he leaned into Jamato as they slowly made their way to the door exiting that specific medical room.

Underscore held the door open. unsure whether it was safe to leave Spoke un hooked to any medical equipment to monitor his vitals, the beeps of machinery seemed to further his worry.

but he couldn't argue with his boss.

they exited the room to the tube that littered the roof of the prison stretching far and wide, Spoke wobbled towards the glass pressing a hand to it.

"where are we?" he questioned gawking at all that the glass separated him from.

"a prison." this truth made Spoke shift uncomfortably, with more questions then he could bring himself to ask.

spoke opened and closed his mouth before he gained words once more "why are we here?" he finally questioned.

Underscore watched idly as their conversation topic loomed heavy in the air for at least one party; under sure how Jamato would explain away those details.

Jamato exhaled leaving the question unanswered "that part doesn't matter, right now." he manged to say, leaving the rest to be tacit.

Spoke was visibly uneasy in finding out his setting, his hand drifting off the glass and on to Jamato's forearm.

"okay, I.. am done."

Jamato's hand went to Spoke's back to support him, a flicker of understanding crossing Jamato's face which he quickly pushed away.
glancing towards Underscore who was snapped back to reality; helping Jamato and Spoke enter back into the medical room.

Spoke stumbled back on to the bed as if he had just ran a Marathon.

Underscore shifted his gaze on to Jamato who just stood over the bed Spoke was lying in before Underscore pulled him from his thoughts.

"Jamato, can I have a word with you?" Underscore asked somewhat timidly.

he nodded and exited along with Underscore leaving Spoke alone, which he didn't seem to mind as he seemed to be quite sleepy. zzZ

(I'm sorry… this isn't funny he's suffering from a concussion)

"what exactly is the plan here, Jamato?" Underscore questioned his opinion obviously disagreeing with what was currently playing out.

"I don't see an issue, this is a good thing." Jamato crossed his arms leaning back stubborn to stick to how he was doing things.

"I'll fix him now." he explained to Underscore with a small frown that his right hand wasn't fully on board with this plan of action.

"and then what happens when he remembers everything?" Underscore narrowed his eyes at his leader his lips thinly knitted together in a frown of disappointment.

"that could take months at most, I have time to change things." Jamato stated shifting away from Underscore turning to the door.

"I know what I'm doing."

Underscore watched his leader go back to the medical room where Spoke lay, and for once he didn't feel a pull to follow in these poor decisions.
