Chapter 1: Sleepy birds

Chapter Text

Kiara was still not used to her current situation.

The heat produced by a phoenix had most of the time been a reason for people to stay away from her.

The fear of getting burned was a constant presence while interacting with the bird of legends.

Back in Kiaras warrior days people would always look towards her with a mix of awe and fear.

Kiara’s past memories made her present life such an alien experience, having someone nuzzle up to her wasn’t uncomfortable, but she still feared getting too used to it.

Nerissa must have wandered during the night.

Kiara couldn’t remember falling asleep so tightly wrapped in the arms of the raven, not that she minded, it was a welcome surprise.

Nerissa seemingly had been drawn in by the phoenix heat, her beautiful facial features were buried deep inside of Kiaras chest, seeking warmth or maybe also other forms of comfort.

Kiara felt a little embarrassed while cuddling. Feeling her cheeks burn up Kiara decided to rub them against Nerissas head to cool off a little, the dark hair tickled on contact.

Kiara had to wonder if this was happiness, waking up with a person you felt this close with, holding them tight while slowly drifting in and out of sweet dreams.

Kiara’s desire to see Nerissa’s face suddenly surfaced, eventually it grew so big that Kiara started pulling the raven out of her bosom, at least she tried to. There was little success on that front.

“You know she is like an immovable fortress while asleep.”

Hearing Callis’ voice behind her, Kiara found herself throwing glances over her own shoulder.

The reaper was grinning, amused over the situation, a little too amused for Kiaras’ liking.

“Calli you already up? Or still up?”

Both could be the case for the reaper; sleep was after all a resource that often escaped Calliope Mori.

“Already, not still. Thank you for your concern”, Calli chuckled, while leaning down to give Nerissa a kiss onto her black head of hair and then another one onto Kiaras lips.

It was nothing more than a peak, but it left a tingle on the mouth of the phoenix.

“They say the early bird catches the worm, so how comes that you two are always the last to wake up?”, Calli couldn’t help but tease.

Kiara rolled her eyes, slowly freeing herself from Nerissa’s bearhug.

The raven opened her eyes at the slight disturbance, but Kiaras warm hand rubbing the top of her head was enough to keep the demon sleeping.

“Cute.”

Calli spoke without much thought, foolishly smiling at the scene displayed on the bed.

“Me or her?”, Kiara asked provocative.

“Both of you obviously.”

A cutout answer, but aware that it was Callis honest opinion Kiara couldn’t really say anything against it.

“You could try getting her out of bed.”

Kiara didn’t sound serious while suggesting the idea. After escaping the bed herself, the first thing the phoenix did was put on something she wouldn’t need to be ashamed of to wear while at home.

“And risk being pulled back into the bed by her?”, Calli asked.

“Well, someone has to make the sacrifice!”

“But not you?”

“Me? Well, uh… I just got out of bed!”

Kiara didn’t come up with a better reason; she also felt unwilling to discuss the task in greater length and so she decided to walk past Calli outside of their room.

The room she had just left was something like their love nest?

All the girls had a small amount of laundry planted in the room, aside from laundry the room only had space left for the ginormous bed meant to house five people at the same time.

Kiara was now on her way through the small hallway on the second floor to her own room, when she walked into a woman with blazing red hair.

“Erby Berby! The woman we need, could you help Calli with Nerissa? Your princess isn’t waking up, maybe you need to kiss her or something…”

Elizabeth seemed a bit overwhelmed by the extended greeting, blinking a couple of times, before sinking into thought.

“Good morning my love. What do I stand to gain for my service?”

“You get to hush her gums using your own? Isn’t that like your favorite thing”, Kiara chuckled, while Elizabeth couldn’t hide a little bit of shame in form of a reddened face.

“That would be an awesome reward, but I feel greedy this morning.”

Elizabeths handsome smile made the older phoenix a little shy, it was hard to believe that Elizabeth was the youngest in the household considering the way she handled all the girls.

Still, Kiara knew that it was mostly an act and that ERB wasn’t actually that tough of a cookie.

“My my, what would be the right reward for a hero like yourself?”

“W-well…”

“Maybe another kiss, or did you hope for something more than simple smooches?”

“…”

Watching Elizabeth turn into a puddle from such a suggestion alone immediately put Kiara into a good mood.

Was it mean to tease the redhaired swordswoman like that? Who knew, but Kiara was a glass canon in that regard too, so she could at least sympathize with Liz.

“I take the silence as a yes, go ahead then and wake the princess before she manages to drag Cawi back into bed”, Kiaras words got movement back into Elizabeths legs.

ERB was rushing her blushing face into the room from which Kiara had just escaped, leaving the phoenix once more to her own device.

The plan had been to go back into her own room for now, but her feet were slowly dragging her towards the stairs instead.

Walking down the staircase Kiara was greeted by the last member of the household. Shiori Novella looked up from the kitchen table at which she currently enjoyed a healthy breakfast… using her scissors.

“Didn’t we all agree to no more scissors at the table?”, Kiara asked, raising both of her brows.

“Will you tattle on me?”, Shiori sounded curious while asking.

“No, I guess not”, Kiara admitted, she couldn’t say that she liked the way Shiori preferred to eat, but she wouldn’t go out of her way to tell the others.

“Then I’m save.”

“Well, I suppose so.”

Kiara sat down next to Shiori, leaning her head against the shoulder of the human archiver. The bird was still numbed by residues of sleep left in her bones.

Shioris dark nails dug through some orange hair strains, caressing the phoenix while scratching Kiaras scalp a little, immediately making the bird more relaxed.

“Are you going to fall asleep on me?”

“Maybe.”

“I don’t mind.”

Shiori kept the caresses coming, Kiara felt a little too relaxed under the archiver’s fingertips, it made her body weak, and she feared falling off her chair if she turned even more into a puddle than she already did.

“I will seriously fall asleep”, Kiara tried to get up while speaking her warning, but Shioris palm kept her.

“And I seriously don’t mind.”

Well, did Kiara mind? She wasn’t sure and then it was already too late. Her eyelids had dropped, kept sinking and eventually fell all the way.

Shiori let out a hum, the voice of the girl Kiara liked was like a heavy blanket covering her entire body from head to toe. Kiara didn’t win this fight, never really won against Shiori to be fair, but that’s ok, no one ever won against the archiver.

Kiara felt a hand caressing her head when she awoke, looking up from her position she saw Liz reading a book.

Where am I? How late is it?

These were the only two questions on the phoenix mind, the first one she could answer herself.

Kiara was lying on top of Elizabeth Rose Bloodflame, while Liz herself was currently lying on a sofa in their living room, book in hand as well as a pair of reading glasses.

“Are we feeling chirper again?”, Liz asked, her smile was soft, infectious too.

Kiara couldn’t help but lay her head back down next to the blue flame which in reaction started to tongue at Kiaras face affectionate.

It wasn’t hot, not only for Kiara, but also for others, the flame didn’t present a threat to anyone, it was gentle just like it’s owner.

“What time is it?”

“A question for my question?”

“I feel always chirper dipper when I’m with you”, Kiara mumbled still half asleep, while throwing both her arms around Elizabeths neck.

“Haha, if that’s the case then I shall grant you a proper answer as well. The sun has bet us farewell just an hour ago, it should be around ten-ish right now.”

“Ten-ish as in 10 PM?!”

“You were tired after the long flight home from our last concert. Shiori said we should let you two get some rest.”

“Two?”

Kiara flashed a confused look, when her glance fell onto Nerissa who was currently in a similar spot across the room, lying on top of Calli.

The reaper had one arm tightly woven around the raven, while her free hand allowed her to stare at her phone.

Maybe it was because of the ruckus Kiara caused, but Nerissa started to appear a little restless, at least until Calli helped her relax by peppering her dark hair with a couple of soft kisses.

“Is my demon princess finally waking up?”, Calli asked with a soft smile.

Nerissa’s red eyes were just as piercing as the reapers, even if they were still half asleep. Nerissa was cute while looking half asleep, her eyes were drowsy and had only opened half way, giving her a bit of erotic touch if you asked Kiara.

Embarrassed over her thoughts upon seeing Rissa’s crescent moons, Kiara looked away, but that only resulted in her eyes meeting Elizabeths instead.

The woman with burning red hair only smiled innocently at the phoenix, her handsome features got Kiaras heart immediately beating.

Who again said it would be a good idea to live with so many beauties? This household is bad for my heart!

“Kiara-senpai…”

“Huh, yes?”

“May I take my reward now for waking up Nerissa?”

“Huh, reward?”

“You look so cute right now Senpai”, Elizabeth leaned closer while speaking, her voice a little lowered had the effect that Kiara could barely hear anything over her own heartbeat.

Unprepared as Kiara was she felt shy.

Thankfully Liz kisses tended to be on the shorter and tender end, maybe it was a bit of shame as well.

“Oy you two, do you have to make out in the living room?”

A giggling voice complained halfheartedly behind the sofa on which Kiara and Liz placed, it belonging to a certain archiver.

Shiori came into the living space armed with a tablet, on top of it one would find 5 cups holding different types of liquid.

“Hey! What about these two then?”, Elizabeth moaned, as she pointed to Nerissa and Calli.

The reaper had placed a hand in the raven’s neck, their lips were locked, one could hear an exasperated gasp from Nerissa when they split, the sound was enough to make the three girls watching the scene blush.

“You two stop too, I brought everyone something to warm up!”

“Are we feeling jealous?”

Calli was the one to ask, her voice teasing, Nerissa meanwhile had gotten up drawn closer to the tablet offering warm beverages.

“Thank you Shiwowi!”

Nerissa hugged the archiver from the side, placing kisses on the bright side of Shioris hair, the human girl could only smile at the strong display of affection, before giving some of the kisses back towards the ravens cheek.

“Why would I be jealous, I expect you to do the same for me later Mori.”

Shioris confidence had Calli blushing, the reaper mumbles a simple “Sure thing” under her breath, before she also joined around the tablet.

“There should be black coffee for the reaper, a tall woater for the queen-”

“Hey!”

“- a sugary drink for myself, a tea with a healthy amount of honey for Wawa and one expresso for Nerissa… just kidding it’s just more tea.”

Everyone thanked the archiver in unison and Shiori could barely escape all the kisses the other four woman were placing on top of her head and face.

“You four are going to eat a girl alive, I’m going to take my sugary drink and go to bed!”

Shiori declared with a chuckle, before escaping out of the grasp of the four taller ladies.

There was a couple of complains and a bit of begging for the human to stick around, her response was a simple invitation: “Any of you can feel free to join me upstairs any time.”

Nerissa had made a move but was immediately hold back by Calli and Elizabeth: “You spend enough time in bed Nerissa!”

Kiara could only laugh at the scene and the same went for Shiori.

Afterwards the phoenix gave a little wave accompanied by warm smile while wishing the archiver a good night.

Nerissa, under tears, also somewhat managed to wish Shiori a good night, before being placed back onto a sofa with her tea in hand.

“Well, I’m also knackered, I might as well keep Shiori company.”

Elizabeth surprised her girlfriends with her declaration.

“I didn’t expect you to be the first to follow Shioris invitation”, Calli commented, sounding a little impressed.

“We just going to sleep, please keep them heads of yours out of the gutter!”

While Calli seemed busy teasing the queen, did Kiara wander with her eyes to Nerissa. Today felt like a flash, but that was to be expected if one spend most of their day sleeping.

Still, the memory of this morning still lingered somewhat, it felt like such a rare occasion for Nerissa specifically to seek Kiaras warmth that it would just not leave the phoenix alone.

Kiara must have been staring very bluntly because even Calli picked up on the invisible lines crossing the room.

Calliope had still been sitting next to Nerissa, holding her half-hearted, but when she noticed the gaze of the phoenix she decided to let go of the demon entirely just before getting up.

“Alright you two can stay up, all you did today was sleep anyway.”

“And where are you going?”

Kiara asked, a little more desperate than she intended, in the direction of the reaper who was making her way towards the stairs.

“Oh, well me… I’m going to make sure they don’t break the bed upstairs.”

Kiara rolled her eyes, a lazy excuse, but neither she nor Nerissa tried to stop the reaper and so Calli walked up the stairs all the same.

Shiori’s laughter could be heard from upstairs shortly after, but nothing else. Curiosity played with Kiaras’ legs like a cat scratching her skin, but she didn’t get up to check on the others.

Kiara’s eyes wandered to Nerissa, who was also stealing glances at her.

“You were clinging to me this morning a lot, not that it was bad!... I was just surprised.”

Kiaras words were in a vice, not coming out clean while being squeezed. Nerissa still heard it all, her cheeks blushed, unable to hide a smile Nerissa looked down.

“You were so soft and warm, can you blame me?”

“Of course not, it’s not blame… I just wondered if there was any meaning to it?”

Nerissa walked over. Kiara didn’t dare to move away, allowing the raven to span her legs like a bridge over the phoenix lap. Kiara felt Nerissa’s weight through the raven’s bottom pressed against her thighs.

Nerissa was a little taller than Kiara, her long legs bridged across Kiaras lap and continued over most of the sofa, Nerissa sat down on her lover’s lap seemingly without a care in the world. Kiara meanwhile felt her heartbeat fasten, maybe it was a little bit pathetic how easily the four women in her life got her this stun locked.

If only Kiara knew that Nerissa wasn’t doing better, despite being the one that had sat down where she now was, there wasn’t much more bravado from the raven’s side afterwards.

“You are my girlfriend, right?”, Kiara asked, a little unsure, her lacking confidence flickering to the surface.

“I’m your fangirl, girlfriend or even wife if you want me to be”, Nerissa spoke while draping her arms around the phoenix shoulders.

Kiara felt shy again, her face reddish from all the affection thrown her way.

“You are my girlfriend you silly.”

Despite her nerves lying blank, Kiara did feel better after saying it out loud. Could Nerissa have said these things on purpose to get a giggle from the phoenix? Who knew, maybe Nerissa actually meant what she said.

“So, if we are girlfriends, then it’s fine for me to hug you right?”

Nerissa fixated Kiara with her demonic red eyes, the soft violet of the phoenix responded in kind. Their faces drew to one another like magnets; an attraction pulled them closer that neither of them had the will to fight against.

Kiara couldn’t remember the last time she felt Nerissa’s lips on her own, it must have been too long. Usually Kiara had to step on her tip toes to reach the demon, unlike Nerissa she rarely wore heels.

Despite the romance Kiara still felt something off in the atmosphere, even during the kiss, but she was drowning too deep in Nerissa’s affection to comment on it, she might as well didn’t notice, only her subconsciousness did.

It was their mouths that had moved first, but soon everything else followed, Nerissa’s back found itself on the sofa, and Kiara found herself pressed onto the demon.

Nerissa was soft, not just her personality, but also her body.

The raven was someone that made others crave holding her, Kiara felt herself rubbing against Nerissa while lowering her head to keep the kiss connected.

Despite them trying to keep their beaks close to each other it was simply impossible, even birds had to breathe, it just never took long for their lips to lock again.

Kiara noticed one new thing about her partner in all of this. Nerissa’s voice was sinful, like a song played on the devil’s instrument.

Kiara felt her tongue glide up and down on Nerissa’s throat, the noise escaping her lover made it seem like she was playing the demon of sound like a new kind of instrument.

Nerissa was also tasty, Kiara tasted love whenever she could suck on the delicate pale skin, being so aggressive was unlike the phoenix usual behavior.

Kiara’s reddish skin formed a strong contrast to Nerissa’s white snowfields; the phoenix high body temperature and lively body made it so that Kiara never appeared pale unlike the demon.

Nerissa thought that their skin looked good together, even better while rubbing so close, thinking so the raven pressed her chest more up against the phoenix.

Both of them were still dressed during all of this, there was desire, but they satisfied it with considerable innocent skin contact. Kiara knew not to go too far on the sofa unless she wished to feel the wrath of a certain reaper and queen.

Shiori would be the only one that didn’t mind.

“Y-you charmer! You witch, I wanted to talk in earnest!”

Kiara had been able to get her head out of the clouds eventually, actually out of Nerissa’s chest to be precise, but we do not sweat the details here.

“Whatever do you mean?”

“You know what I mean!”

“We were having fun!”

“True!”

Kiara couldn’t even deny it, her sudden confession made both of them laugh. The chuckles only ended when Kiara threw her arms tightly around Nerissa’s neck, glancing up at her in concern.

“I feel like there is a weird air between us, that doesn’t exist between anyone else in the household. What’s up with that?”

Kiara’s signature was wearing her heart on her sleeve and so she finally came out with what she had been thinking for a while now.

“Maybe because I started out as your fan?”

“Weren’t you Callis fan too?”

“I love all of Hololive, but you are different… you are my Oshi!”, Nerissa exploded a bit onto Kiara, leaving the orange bird thrown off her horse.

Kiara couldn’t hold a giggle shortly after, being treated special had always been a weakness of hers.

“Are you two joining soon, the others are getting worried.”

A new voice joined the fray, Kiara and Nerissa looked synchronized to the source; it was a sleepy looking Shiori Novella.

“What? Did I interrupt?”

Shiori gazed at Nerissa while asking, specifically her neck covered in bruises.

The red marks were like footprints that Kiara had left after breaking in and they lead all the way down to… let’s say both birds were embarrassed over the fact that Shiori had noticed.

The conversation ended there for today, but that was today and there would always be a tomorrow in this household.

Notes:

I’m not 100% happy with it, could have proof read it one more time to get it right, but it’s soooo hard to write 5 characters in one scene!
I'm using this first and maybe last chapter to kind establish the general vibe, thats why it might feel a little lukewarm.
They all in love with each other, but relationship still differ and we might get to explore them more in the future!
