Chapter Text
Another invite in the mail, ignored and to be thrown aside. Twilight wasn't one for parties, she never had been, but this pony was persistent. It seemed almost every other day that she'd find a brightly glittered slip of paper in her mailbox, to the point where every other piece of mail she received ended up sparkly and smelling distinctly of cake frosting. It was infuriating.
Twilight didn't want to be rude. She never acted poorly on purpose, that wasn't her style. She preferred to slide under the radar, go out to the library, grab a hayburger once in a while, soak up the light of the moon in her (frankly matted) fur. But when her neighbour moved in, well those peaceful nights became a distant memory.
“HEY! hey hey hey, Twilight! Twiiiliggghhhht~...”
She sighed, heavily, pushing up her glasses and turning. She learned long ago that ignoring this mare would only prolong the annoying noises, “Yes, Miss Pie?”
The pink pony snorted, her curls bouncing as she trotted alongside the Unicorn, “Miss Pie? I've told you before, call me Pinkie!”
“Hm, Well, Miss Pie-”
“OOH!” The interruption was swift and loud, Pinkie bounced in front of Twilight, causing her vision to be filled with neon pink, “Is that the invite i sent you?”
Ah, Social convention, besting me once again..
Twilight grimaced lightly, glancing at the sparkly monstrosity in her magical grasp, “Oh, it…seems to be…” Opening it, she was immediately blasted in the face with confetti, the paper tangling in her mane and hanging off her muzzle, “Hm.”
A muffled giggle came from the earth pony in front of her, she gently reached out a hoof and brushed a stray piece of red litter from Twilight’s face, “i- snrk- I uhm, hehe, I'm still working out the kinks on that.”
“Clearly.” Sighing heavily, Twilight glanced at the invite, for some picnic in the middle of the day. Great, now she has to think of an excuse, “Oh no…this seems to be..uh..taking place when I'm at work…”
Pinkie deflated, though only for a second, “Ah! Well, there's always next time, don't work yourself too hard!”
Twilight huffed, giving a polite, if strained, smile as she turned back into her house. The invitation went straight into the bin, along with the confetti she managed to shake out of her mane.
“Fucking picnics..”
