Dendrolight

Summary:

No dramatic dialogue here to get you intrigued.

[Note: For maximum enjoyment of this story, you should know that this plot is somewhat reliant on understanding how Aaru, Irminsul and Sumeru work on an internal level. It is highly recommended to complete the Archon Quest 'Truth Amongst The Pages Of Purana' and understand the surrounding context before proceeding. There will be major Archon Quest spoilers ahead. You've been warned.]

Haikaveh slowburn, Haikaveh angst, Cynari and Sethoscara in the background, maybe some Candehya later on. Mehrak is a girl and a major part of the story, especially later on.

Fills out a lot of the plot points I wasn't happy with in Truth Amongst The Pages Of Purana.

OR

Genshin lore is a mess, so is Haikaveh, so let's fix one and make the other messier (but you won't find out which until the end)

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

POV - ???

Two men sat by a weak campfire on a northern bank of the Morte region.

“Blasted tyre. Pantalone said it’d get us to Snezhnaya. Guess he cut corners again… Mora hungry son of a-”

“Hey, don’t let him hear us. He’ll put it in his little notebook. We can’t have him catching on before we get to Snezhnaya.”

“Oh, come on. He can’t be that intelligent.”

“Why do you think they’d want him if he wasn’t? The scrawny loser doesn’t pack much of a punch.”

“Whatever. The Knave is sending her diver boy here with a spare wheel. Apparently the kid’s quite handy.”

“Is she sending the twins again?”

“Just the diver boy.”

“Good. I don’t want to deal with them.”

“Did you drug him this evening?”

“No, you idiot. We drugged him yesterday. We need him alive.”

A few bubbles nearby rose to the surface as a figure in diving equipment emerged from the depths, holding a wagon wheel. The two men leapt up.

“Password?”

The diver responded in kind. “It’s a long blueprint to unroll.”

“Hand it over.”

The diver gave the wheel to one of the men, casting a glance at the wagon for a brief moment. Under his helmet, he pursed his lips. “I can fix it for you,” he offered quietly.

“Fine.”

“Make it quick.”

Pulling off his diving helmet, the freckled blond pulled a hood over his blue eyes and donned his usual mask. He approached the wagon and got to fixing the tyre. The faint glow of dendro flickered through the boards of the cart as he worked. Freminet almost felt bad. Kidnapping wasn’t the side of the Fatui he liked to associate with. The two men opened the door and dragged a ragged looking person in a blindfold out of the cabin area as Freminet lifted the wagon to replace the broken wheel.

When Freminet glanced at the prisoner, he did a double take. If it hadn’t been for the height difference and the vision at his waist, this person looked like…

“Faranak,” he muttered under his breath as he finished up on the wheel. He watched the person’s reaction carefully.

What he didn’t expect was a verbal response.

“... My mother…? But she moved to…” The blond muttered, biting his lip. “... Well, this isn’t how I imagined visiting Fontaine.”
