Author's Note

Thank you for reading The Divine Child Appears Twice.

This is an English translation of my original Japanese novel, 神子は二度、姿を現す.

Rather than translating every sentence literally, I have adapted some expressions so that the story reads naturally in English while remaining faithful to the original.

I hope you enjoy Userclid and Alexis's journey.

Thank you for reading.

Chapter 1: Prologue

Chapter Text

Prologue

It began with the faintest sense that something was wrong.

After school, a first-year high school student was finishing the cleanup at the kyudo range after club practice.

At his school, cleanup duty was assigned to first-year students on a rotating schedule.

"Come on, let's go already!"

One of his teammates, already changed and ready to leave, called out to him.

"Yeah. Just a minute—I'm almost done."

With the last of the cleanup finished, he headed toward the locker room to change out of his kyudo uniform.

Then he stopped.

In the empty space ahead of him, he thought he saw a thin black line suspended in the air.

"...A thread?"

He instinctively reached toward it.

"Hey! Hurry up!"

Another club member, already inside the locker room, called for him again.

Must've been my imagination.

Thinking nothing of it, he unconsciously stepped sideways, avoiding the place where he thought he'd seen the strange black thread.

The moment he passed by—

"***, ******."

A voice unlike anything he had ever heard echoed inside his mind.

Then a hand reached out from the black line.

It seized his arm.

And dragged him in.

"Hey! What are you doing? Hurry—"

The teammate who had called to him stepped back into the dojo to see what was taking so long.

There was no one there.

From that day on, the boy was never seen again.
