Chapter 1: The Tale of Two Women

Notes:

It has been one year since the passing of TheViandVelGullwings, or as you all knew her ViolettheCutieGrimReaper, author of Tonight (I'll be Crooked), Of Green, Blue and Gold, and most importantly...Only I Can Mark you. And after so long, I couldn't think of anything better than to honor her memory by stepping up and taking on a remake of her most beloved fandom and her favorite fanfic in that fandom.

So, I hope you all enjoy.

Chapter Text

Sixteen-year-old Lena Luthor knew that it was a bad idea.

Lena initially refused when her boyfriend, Jack Spheer, told her about a grand birthday party hosted by one of the richest girls in her school, Amélie Lacroix. With her father's health deteriorating, Lex's growing obsession with Superman, and her mother's cruelty, she had too much on her plate.

Besides, she's going to a party fueled by alcohol, drugs, a wealth of egos, and hormones? It was ludicrous. But after some prodding by the boy she loved, Lena was finally convinced. Initially, Lena had been nervous, but after an hour of talking to seemingly entertaining people, Lena had let her guard down and began to enjoy herself.

"I told you that you would have a blast," Jack had told her as Lena began to get into the groove of the music.

After weeks of dealing with the stress of it all, Lena was having some much-needed fun. But after a while, she got thirsty and asked for a cup of wine from her. Graciously, Jack had handed her a wine glass with a rather charming smile.

And without any hesitation, Lena took the drink and drank it down.

And then it all became a blur.

"Hey, wake up," a cheerful voice said.

Lena let out a groan as she turned on the nice, comfortable bed, a strange scent filling her nose.

Her eyes snapped open, and she quickly found herself in a room not her own.

She turned around, and on the bed was a honey-blonde-haired girl she had never seen before in Metropolis.

The girl had a loose black tank top, black jeans with some stylish tears at the knees, and a pair of black Converse sneakers. And hanging on a coat rack in the corner of the room was a black leather duster jacket.

But what drew Lena in was the bluest eyes she had ever seen. Sure, she had seen many blue eyes before, but this girl's eyes were darker. It reminded her of the color cobalt blue. And the eyes seemed to shimmer like the sun's light reflecting off the ocean.

The girl looked somewhat familiar to her, but she couldn't place where.

"About time you woke up," the girl said with a grin as she scratched the side of her head. "I was worried that you never would."

"Where…?" Lena's mouth had never felt so dry before.

"You're at my hotel room," the girl announced. "Sorry, I did not clean up beforehand. I was not expecting any guests."

"Water?" Lena asked.

"Water? Sure," the girl said as she stood up from the bed before she lurched forward, her right hand pressed against her left side.

"You're hurt…" Lena whispered, her body rising from the bed.

"Eh, you should see the other guys," the blonde joked with a wink.

'The other guys?' Lena questioned mentally.

"Keep your butt right there in that bed, Green-Eyes. I'll be back with some nice ice water," the girl told her before Lena watched her limp off. As she waited, Lena looked around the girls' room.

The room was as average as a hotel room could be. The room had plain pearl-white paint, two queen beds, generic stock photos of flowers on the wall, and a small mini-fridge near the dresser where the TV sat.

"I'm back," A voice sang from behind her, which caused Lena to turn around to see the blonde girl, who leaned in the doorway with a cup of ice water.

"A little bit," Lena replied as she flushed.

The girl grinned and limped over to her and held out the cup of ice water. Lena took the cup and drank it, enjoying the cold sensation going down her throat. "I needed that…Thank you," Lena said as she held the cup in her hand.

"Anytime," The blonde replied.

"Um..." Lena began, unsure of really asking the main thing on her mind. "How did I get here?"

"Oh, that? I was wondering when you were going to ask," the girl teased. "I brought you here. I kind of had no choice considering my options."

"What do you mean?" Lena asked.

"Well…Basically, I was with my friend when I came across you," the blonde explained. "I saw some guys pulling you to their car. You were struggling to get away from them and crying out for help. Me being me, I intervened."

"You did?" Lena asked.

"You don't remember?" the girl asked.

Lena shook her head. "I-I'm sorry, but I don't…." Lena told her. "The last thing I remember was taking a drink of the wine that Jack gave me…After that, it's all a blur…."

She watched the girl's eyes narrow before she shook her head and said, "Well, I intervened. I fought all three of them. One of them was very tough, bruised me a bit, which is shocking considering who I am. Thankfully, I managed to win and got you out of there."

"Y-You fought them to save me?" Lena asked with surprise.

"You were in danger. Had to help," the girl nonchalantly replied.

Overwhelmed, Lena looked away from the girl's face, where she happened to glance at the girl grasping her side with busted-up, bruised, and bloody hands of her savior. and let out a horrified gasp. "You got injured because of me."

"I'll be okay. Trust me," the taller girl replied with a cheeky smile. "Besides, I couldn't sit by with all of my gifts and let someone get hurt. If I had to get hurt in return, I think that's a good trade."

Lena reached up to touch the bruised right cheek of the girl and said, "There are no words I can say that would accurately show my appreciation to you..."

Her savior blushed a bit at her touch as she stammered, "I-I...Well..."

Lena found her face heating up as well and quickly removed her hand. "S-Sorry…" Lena apologized.

"Hakuna Matata," the girl said.

"Hakuna…Matata?" Lena repeated.

"It means 'no worries,' Green-Eyes," the girl replied. "You never saw The Lion King before?"

"My parents don't allow me to watch or do anything fun," Lena muttered. "Found that it interfered with my higher learning, unfortunately…Which means no Disney movies."

"Oh no, no, that is no good," the girl said with a wide smile. "Well, I think you should take the chance to catch up on what you missed."

Lena found the heroine's smile infectious because, despite the situation, she smiled. "Maybe I should…." Lena agreed.

"Awesome. Well, now that you're awake and safe, I should take you back home," the girl said.

"There is no need for that," Lena murmured. "I don't want to trouble you any more than I have."

The girl let out a musical laugh, which made Lena's heart flutter. "I don't mind it one bit," the girl said, her eyes glimmering in amusement. She then held out her hand and said, "Come on…"

Lena took her hand.

It took twenty minutes for the mysterious to fly Lena to the balcony of her best friend, Samantha Arias', apartment building.

Sam had been horrified to learn what occurred at Lacroix's party with Lena's attempted kidnapping and wasted no time in inviting Lena to stay with her and her newborn while Lena sorts through all that had occurred. "We're here," the girl whispered as Lena was placed on the balcony.

Lena was too proud to admit it, but while she was terrified of flying due to her fear of heights, she felt completely safe in the arms of her savior. "Thank you. I appreciate all that you've done tonight for me…." Lena said.

"No need to thank me, it was my pleasure to see you safe, ma'am," the girl replied as she put her hands on her hips, puffed out her chest, and gave her a broad smile. Lena let out a laugh at the ridiculous pose, which caused the girl to laugh as well. Once the laughter died down, the girl said, "I mean it. I'm glad that I was able to help."

Lena nodded and said, "I guess this is goodbye."

The girl nodded before a gentle smile appeared on her face. "Hey, don't rule it out. Maybe we'll meet again, one day."

"Maybe," Lena whispered.

"Then no goodbyes from you, ma'am," the girl told her before she turned around and stepped toward the balcony's railing.

"Wait…" Lena called out. "What is your name?"

The girl turned around and smiled. It was such a gentle smile that Lena felt the air leave her lungs.

"You can call me…Little Wing," the girl answered.

"Then…See you again…Little Wing," Lena said.

Little Wing smiled and took off into the sky.

And with her exit, something locked into place in Lena's heart.

She hoped she would see her once again...

"You think she remembers me?"

Siobhan Smythe and Alex Danvers groaned out in unison, prompting Kara Danvers to turn around and look at the duo with confusion. "What?" Kara asked.

It was a valid question.

That beautiful green-eyed girl had been the first time she used her powers since Hank Henshaw had spotted her with Alex two years ago. Not only that, she had saved her! She had done something heroic!

Did Kal feel this way?

"I'm pretty sure your precious 'Green Eyes' would remember being saved from being date-raped by the Little Wing two days after it happened," Siobhan told her with a shrug before she drank a bottle of Coke.

"Why is she one of my best friends?" Kara asked Alex, who snorted in amusement.

"Because I saved your ass twice when we met in New York," Siobhan answered with a grin, prompting Kara to grin as well.

When Kara first crashed to Earth, her pod crash-landed in Siberia, where she was surrounded by gigantic armed robots who began trying to subdue her. Kara instinctively fought back, displaying powers she didn't know she had when Superman showed up all of a sudden and defeated them.

After Kal-El told him who she was, Kara had battled him from Siberia to the Great Wall of China before stopping and listening to him. After he told her the truth about Krypton's destruction, Kara flew back to her pod, needing to see the truth for herself, but Simon Tycho, the man who tried to kidnap her, had taken her pod to New York and challenged her to find it.

Enraged, Kara flew to where this mythical New York was, and it was there that she met Siobhan Smythe. The two had become fast friends, and it helped that Siobhan managed to learn Kryptonian just by hearing her speak it.

But things took a turn when Siobhan's father, the Black Banshee, tried to trigger Siobhan's change into the Silver Banshee during a night out at a club. Kara was able to defeat him and break the curse that had enslaved Siobhan while helping her retain its powers.

Unfortunately, things did take another turn when, after defeating Siobhan's father, Kara was ambushed by machines laced with what she would learn was Kryptonite and taken to a space station by Simon Tycho.

With the help of Siobhan, Kal-El was able to arrive just as Kara was able to defeat the multi-billionaire. Unfortunately, Kal-El decided to take her away from Siobhan and to the Danvers, much to both girls' distress.

If Siobhan hadn't followed Kara to Midvale, Kara was pretty sure that she would have never seen the silver-haired girl again. Thankfully, Eliza allowed Siobhan to stay with them when she popped up one rainy night.

"True….Kal didn't endear himself to me literally that entire time," Kara sighed. "And he wonders why I was so upset back then."

"I'm still salty at him," Siobhan said.

"Ditto," Alex said. "I mean, I'm happy to have this bonehead for a sister and you as a friend, Sio, but he could have at least given us a week's warning before dropping off a tired space-girl." Alex then mussed Kara's hair, causing the heroine to bat her hand away.

"Anyways, what made you ask about that first girl you saved?" Siobhan asked.

Kara frowned and crossed her arms. "Well…she made my heart quicken."

"Heart quicken? I mean, I know you described her as beautiful, but she can't be that hot," Siobhan said as she slipped her hands into her pocket.

Green eyes flashed in Kara's mind, causing her cheeks to redden as she looked down at the ground slightly. "Speak for yourself," she murmured.

Maybe it was just her wishful thinking, but Kara truly hoped that the mysterious girl would always remember her.

As time went on, Little Wing faded from Lena's mind as her life continued to grow into a soap opera. Her father passed away, her mother completely froze her out, and her ex-boyfriend had been arrested for the kidnapping plot.

All she had left was Sam, Ruby, and Lex.

While Sam and her daughter were a bright spot in her life, Lena Luthor's relationship with her brother was complex.

When her father bought her home after her birth mother's death, Lex was the only friendly face that greeted her. And he remained a friendly face when her father drank himself to death and when Lillian became harsher to her.

She loved and admired her brother. At times, she felt like she worshipped him. She loved his mind, his conscience, wanting to genuinely help others, despite his own tortured mind and emotions.

He was a good man, and Lena wanted to be the one he depended on.

Then he met Clark Kent.

Well, "met" was an understatement. Lex had a car accident, with Clark being the victim. But somehow, Clark saved his life, and it grew into this friendship that Lena was admittedly jealous of before she was shipped off to a private school.

Lex always reached out and spoke to her about Clark. He often spoke about how they would stand together and build a legacy with one another.

"Clark and I, we have a destiny together," Lex once told her. "We'll both be great men, not because of our families or our social standings. But because of one another. Whether we do it with or against each other, it's up to him."

Lena had no idea how true those words were.

Slowly, but surely, their not-quite love story turned tragic when Lex found out something about Clark, something Lena wouldn't be aware of until the day they died. It tore her brother apart. It took the person she idolized and turned him into a monster that wanted power.

Lex drove everyone who cared for him away. Lillian, Lana, and then Lena herself. All that mattered to Lex was Clark.

Lena knew that Lex was a manipulative, vile, and egotistical person near the end of his life. And yet, her heart cried for the person he used to be prior to Superman's appearance in their lives.

She felt like she had tried harder to save him; she could have redeemed him. But Superman—No— Clark cost her that chance, and now she was left with this burning anger and regret.

And it only made things worse when, on the day of Lex's funeral (coincidentally on the same day as Superman's funeral), she made her appearance.

The Platinum-Blonde, green-eyed Bombshell, the Maiden of Might, the Goddess Next Door, the All-Mighty Supergirl. She announced, at the end of her rousing speech to her deceased cousin, that she would step in as the Earth's Pillar of Hope.

All Lena could remember was this burning feeling of hate at the speech. Lena didn't hate any aliens. She didn't even hate Kryptonians in general, but Lena despised any Kryptonian who was related to the man who killed her wayward brother.

She would not allow the world to be dependent on a Super once again, but she despaired as she felt there was nothing she could do.

In that moment, a flash of beautiful blue eyes and a gentle smile entered her mind.

"I couldn't sit by with all of my gifts and let someone get hurt."

And as Lena found out, neither could she.

So she would do something Lex couldn't do. She would become the hero humanity could count on. A hero that wouldn't need a Super who wore the sigil of a murderer. A hero...that would stand against the sigil of that murderer with everything within her.

And if she had to get hurt in return to protect humanity and take down this new Kryptonian, then she thought that was a good trade.

Kara Danvers was given a goal the day she lost Krypton.

To protect her cousin from any harm.

Sure, things went awry when her pod was thrown into the Phantom Zone, but when she came out of the zone and landed on Earth, she went out of her way to keep her word.

Even when her cousin pawned her off on others.

Their relationship was rocky at its best and nonexistent at its worst. Kal didn't see himself as a Kryptonian. Sure, he respected his origins, but he was a human through and through, and it hurt Kara that the "Last Son of Krypton" continuously pushed away his Kryptonian identity.

She had tried so hard to teach him, but eventually his visits grew fewer and fewer until he stopped showing up at all.

Kara had been devastated by this. He would rather throw her away to be the human he wanted to be. She was hurt, but she would let her cousin have his life. He wanted to be a human, so she wouldn't force him to be.

She let him have his life, and she had hers.

She had let her personal feelings override the one goal she was given when she was a child.

Then, it happened.

Her cousin had died, died, with his hand in the hand of his sworn enemy, Lex Luthor. They both had killed one another. She didn't know about their history until a tearful Lois revealed it.

Clark and Lex used to be friends, though Lois thought there was something deeper between them, despite him being with her, and Lex being with Lana, and later, a woman named Eve. But then, Lex found out about Clark being Superman, and everything went to hell.

The world was put in their feud, and Lois admitted that the reason Clark pushed her out of his life wasn't that he didn't care. But because he did not want to involve Kara in his war with Lex.

Kara was emotionally crushed. Alex, Siobhan, Lucy, Kelly, and James tried to cheer her up, but nothing could.

All those years were wasted.

She should have been there for Clark instead of letting him push her out of his life in some foolish notion that he was protecting her.

Her sadness then turned to fury at the Luthor family. She knew that it was foolish and that it was misplaced anger, but if not for Lex, Clark wouldn't have felt the need to abandon her. Kara was often a forgiving person, but anyone who claimed to be a Luthor, she would forever despise.

And if any would cross her path, she would bring them down.

Just like every other villain.
