Chapter Text
There are some moments in your life you can’t forget. Whenever you close your eyes, and think of them, you go back in time. Jinx had some of those moments. The weird thing about them? You know in that exact moment, it will be one of them. They feel vivid, electric, odd. Capturing.
This moment was one of them.
The moment she saw her eyes’ reflection in the car mirror. That one or two seconds. The exchange, where you don’t even know what you are trading, but you know there’s something to it. Bad thing about trades is that you never know if you are winning or losing until you get out of them.
So Jinx just looked. The eyes looked back. Then, they disappeared.
Her sister’s voice took her out of her reverie:
“How was the trip? I’m so glad you came to visit!”. Vi was excited to see her.
“I don’t know why people with children are allowed in trains.”
Now, a slight smile in the mirror.
“But you are here now! Can’t believe it. My little sister is here. I’m so glad you guys finally met.”
Yes. Vi would never, ever shut up about her girlfriend. Caitlyn this. Caitlyn that. Caitlyn is so good for her. Caitlyn is so loving. Caitlyn is so kind. This, that. Jinx stayed silent and kept noticing, Thing about her mind is that everything could invoke a question. Why this interior color? Which model is this car? It smells like, but what’s this smell like? Is it fresh, mint? Lemon? Is it car perfume, or is it Caitlyn’s perfume? If so, does she like perfumes this way? But wasn’t she this princess, why not a sugary smell? Why a masculine car, but not a girly hatchback?
“I’m glad you came to visit Jinx. Vi speaks so highly of you.” Another interruption. She was just about to figure something out, but snapped out, again.
“Yeah, Vi never tends to shut up about people.”
A raised brow.
“And you’ve never changed, Pow.” Vi smiles, and laughs, but it’s not genuine. Could Caitlyn tell she’s afraid of shit hitting the fan?
“Hm.” Jinx replies. Not because she doesn’t have anything to say, but because she wants this uncomfortable and weird conversation done. She didn’t come here to visit them. She came for a job interview, because she just graduated. She slowly put her head on the window. They always do this in the movies, but any time Jinx tried this, her head would bump into the window on a trash EDM song rhythm. This time it doesn’t. While crossing the bridge, she gets to look at the sea, and dream like a main character.
Piltover. Elegant, messy, rich at some parts, but beautiful would be the one word to define it. She wanted to come here for a long time.
“Let’s eat something nice! I’m starving.” When are you not, Jinx thought.
“Is there anything you want to eat Jinx?”
“I’m fine with whatever.” She mumbled. She kept her head on the window until the car slowed down.
They got out of the car, and a guy came next to it.
“Welcome Miss Kiramman.”.
Huh, is she famous or a regular?
They went into a fancy restaurant. “Jeez.” Jinx mumbled. “I thought we were going to get McDonalds or something.”
Her sister opened her mouth, and the exact time, Caitlyn replied. “I hope you like this more than McDonalds, then.”
She looked her in the eyes.
Another thing about Jinx. She mostly found direct eye contact uncomfortable. She’d reply to contact, start talking, move her hands a lot, and would stare at something else. Eye contacts seemed very intense to her. But not this time. She didn’t feel irritated and out of space when she looked at Caitlyn in the eyes.
“Bet.” she smiled slightly.
They chose a table outside. More like, Vi went there and took it. It was a bit weird to observe Vi here, a lot of rich Pilties were around, and Vi just didn't fit in with her haircut and close to zero manners.
Caitlyn and Vi took a seat across from her, Caitlyn directly in front. She chose to look at the details of the plates. How everything was arranged symmetrically. It relaxed her a bit. She liked it when things were aligned perfectly, or they were a total mess. No in between.
She took her vape out of her bag, Vi glanced at her. Almost implying this was a place where it's not cool to vape. Did she realize how she was perceived? Probably not. Vi was never very good with thinking, otherwise she would know rich people do whatever the fuck they want.
So she took a hit and raised her head. Behind the smoke, blue eyes appeared, and a soft smile.
A waiter with no wrinkles on his shirt asked for their order. Vi asked for a burger. Caitlyn ordered something Jinx couldn't understand, and she just asked for whatever Caitlyn did. That earned Jinx another small glance from those blue eyes.
"So, you recently graduated, right Jinx?" asked the owner of them.
"Yes."
"Which major?" Caitlyn brought her hands together in front of her and intertwined her fingers. Jinx looked at them, and her rings.
"Uhh, computer science, but I kind of do robotics on the side."
"That sounds exhausting." Wow. Not a you must be smart. Not an are you a nerd?. Interesting.
"It was, and it is."
"Was it your childhood dream?"
"Sort of. I was always into computers."
Vi jumped into the conversation.
"Yeah, like, she would lock herself in her room and we would ask her to fix stuff all the time."
Caitlyn didn't waver her attention from her.
"It must be nice, following your passion."
"I wouldn't call it a passion. I don't know, if you call something your passion, it feels like you talked yourself into calling it that."
"Hmm." That smile again, with raised brows.
Their conversation ended with the food's arrival. Jinx honestly didn't know what was in that plate, so she took a hesitant bite. Wow.
"Better than McDonalds?" Caitlyn asked, smiling. She couldn't help but smile back.
"For sure."
